I have been using a pessary for about 2 years and have been experiencing
vaginal bleeding.
My gynecologist told me to stop using
the pessary until the bleeding stops.
Now, about 6 weeks later, I still have bleeding.
I'm concerned about the possibility of cancer and wonder if I should give up using the pessary altogether.

@carolel6535 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We aren't medical professionals here however we provide one another with emotional support through sharing our own stories and compassion for one another.

I can understand why you are concerned about the vaginal bleeding. Are you post-menopausal? Vaginal bleeding or spotting is a sign that something needs to be checked it. It can be a sign of cancer but there can also be many other medical explanations .

In our place I'd go back to my gynecologist and insist on a pelvic exam and tests to determine what is causing the bleeding. When I went to my gynecologist for post-menopausal bleeding, I had a pelvic exam and then he ordered an ultrasound. In my case the ultrasound showed a lot thickening of the endometrium (uterine wall) so then I was scheduled for a D&C (dilation and curetage). Others here had endometrial biopsies in the gynecologist's office. I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer (endometrioid adenocarcinoma).

I don't want to scare you anymore than you might already be scared. I shared my story because many of us here have had to advocate for ourselves when something did not feel right and really push our medical providers for more investigation.

Will you call your gynecologist's office today and get an appointment? If the appointment that is offered is more than one month away I suggest taking the appointment and then asking to be put on a list to get an earlier appointment if there is a cancellation.
