Any book or info suggestions about sexual health after prostatectomy?
Hi,
I am almost to month 5 in my recovery, and able - with a penis pump and a couple of 5 mg tedafil pills - to get an erection that is firm enough for sex. My "care team" is telling me that it is early on, and time itself will be the biggest healer from here on out, but I want to be very proactive and approach this correctly. Can any recommend a book about recovering sexual health after a prostatectomy?
I am tired of wading through Youtube videos that offer nothing more than clickbait thumbnails or titles. Hopefully there is some book, blog, or specialist out there that can give me more than doing kegels and increasing my sexual activities. I am not expecting a magic bullet, but I want something that speaks to those who are ready to take X steps to recover their previous sexual health. Thanks!

@fiskadoro I did not get started with penile rehab early enough, plus I also had a venous link so Trimix wouldn’t work. But I suggest you make an appointment. He and his staff are very experienced and thorough. Good luck!
Also, don’t settle for a cheap penile pump. The cheap one I bought sucked in my scrotum when I pumped due to a poor fit.

1 Reaction@fiskadoro Sorry, just seeing this now. Were you able to find a copy of the book?
If you can't find a print copy (which are going for stupid high prices on reseller marketplace) , you can find "Saving your sex life : a guide for men with prostate cancer by Mulhall, John" online on the Internet Database. All you have to do is set up an account (it's a legit site, so not a big deal to sign up, it's a repository of the books, music).
You can't download it, but it's readable on a laptop/tablet.

One you are early. Depending on age, physical condition, quality of your erection before, it can take two years to heal. I am 70, and with cialis I have about a good enough erection. With trimix I am good.
If you are looking for resources I can recommend two. A Healing Touch, created by Victoria Cullen, it's a life saver. https://atouchysubject.podia.com/community/home.
The other is the Penis Project out of Australia. They cover ED issues post RP, but its not their primary focus. But good stuff.
Be patient and ignore the quacks. There's good help out there.
@bwjb yea- he's my guy. HE has me on trimix and low dose viagara. The Trimix works. The viagara , not so much.

1 Reaction@tjv1156 Wow-you are fortunate to have Dr. Mulhull as your doc. You're in good hands.
For those that don't have Dr. Mulhull as their doc (99.9999 percent of us all) and you don't have his book, he just did this video released in December. It is packed with SO much solid information. Definitely worth watching.
#ProstateCancer John Mulhall, MD & Mark Moyad, MD on Dec. 13, 2025
I've been doing some heavy duty homework, but there was a ton of information that I hadn't learned yet.
Tons of reality check information that most docs don't generally provide in depth before the various PCa treatments , realities of ED meds and post treatment stats as well as his treatment protocols. Later, in the question section, he even talks about bike seats (apparently grooved seats are worthless) as well as fitness being a huge penis health factor (penis is basically a big endothelium blood vessel that fitness helps protect), as well as new restorative treatments and what he thinks of them.

3 Reactions@tjv1156, I'm glad you got an appointment with Dr. Mulhall and the Trimix is working. It didn't for me since it turned out I had a "venous leak", but it was obvious that he was an expert concerning ED. I was familiar with low dose generic Cialis for penis rehabilitation but not low dose Viagra. I wish you continued luck.
@colleenyoung
Thanks! I watched the video and "Man Overboard" is on the way, I am looking forward to reading it.
