How do you cope with the pain?
I am 57 years old, have led a highly active live with daily sports until a few years ago, when I started having pain in my left foot. I underwent several therapies including acupuncture trauma, which caused a nerve reaction. Since then, that was Sept 2023, I have not had a single day without pain.
I have been suffering pain in my feet, legs, hands and tongue for more than 3 years, moving up to my upper back now. After countless doctor consultations I have at last been diagnosed with SFN. Further blood testing is in process to find the cause and to explain the muscle pain. I have been told to contact a pain management center - have to wait 3 months for an appointment. My feet are chronically inflamed, extreme pain, as soon as I put weight on them, bone marrow edema up to the tibia, develeponig ostheoporosis.
In the past I have tried all sorts of pain meds, from OTCs to steroids to medicinal THC - nothing worked.
Pregabaline was a nightmare, no pain relief, weaning off it difficult.
Now I am supposed to try Gabapentin, but I am so tired and scared of trying yet another drug and having to endure the side effects on top of the pain.
The pain is eating me up. Only moments of laughter or crying for an hour in bed can sometimes give me relief.
How do you cope with chronic pain?
How do you keep up a positive attitude towards the future, knowing it will never get better?

@ichbindck Your 82, and they're worried about addiction? You have got to be kidding me.

I sympathize with you. I am in constant pain in my right buttock and lower back. Often it is excruciating . I just keep hoping and praying. Try to keep up hope. It's hard to keep busy because most days its too painful to sit. God bless you

2 Reactionstry B vitamins + iron. (which can be 2 eggs EVERY morning for a while.) plus I take B (self-inject) + Bisclycinate Iron pills. Helped TONS. Healed the nerve sheaths that transmitted the pain. I don't think our bodies absorb or get the nutrition we need when we age. Our bodies start failing because of it.
For chronic pain (I have degenerative disc disease + a really messed up tailbone of arthritis and broken for which there is no solution) I have been taking Percocet (Oxycodone) for 25 years. 5 milligrams 4-6 hours for pain, 3 to 4 times a day. Couldn't handle the nerve meds. The NSAIDs will kill you.

2 Reactions@jeffrez1662 I agree with you. That is absolutely ridiculous and honestly sadistic. Infuriates me!

I find it very painful to sit as well after a failed laminectomy. It really limits what you can do
So depressing. No one really has any answers either. I do the best I can. Change positions often. I swim at a local indoor pool 2-3 times a week. Water is great. All the best

1 Reaction@loriesco I have been prescribed Oxycodone since 2010 following failed spinal fusion. I recently moved and cannot find a local pain management specialist who will continue the rx. I've been told I will be weaned off both short- and long-acting scripts. I assume this is in response to the change in CDC guidelines. All to say I wonder if you have any suggestions regarding my need to continue meds. I cannot walk without them (also have several autoimmune issues that heighten pain). This change in protocol is barbaric. Thanks for any input.

2 Reactions@debec that is barbaric and you will have to tell them that you are suffering. The keyword is suffering. They are there to alleviate your suffering. In addition there is a CDC guideline for long-term chronic pain that is still in fact as far as I know. If I go to look for the link, it might delete this email so I’ll send it and see if I could find it. Let me know if you have success in finding it.

2 Reactions@debec OK I found several links, but I don’t have time to go through and give you the one you might specifically need so why don’t you go through them? I don’t see any evidence that anything has changed long-term. Chronic pain is still managed by opioid and there’s a guideline. https://www.google.com/search
@loriesco THANK YOU! I appreciate your taking the time to research and respond. Best to you!
@debec I took 20 mg Oxy four times a day for years…then they stopped working so I stopped them and I went through withdrawal…not fun. Since then no opioid works for me so I have pain daily! Sorry you’re also suffering!
