When did hair loss start with Abraxone/Gecitabine chemo?

Posted by Marsha @gmapri, Jan 26 1:47pm

Have had 2 rounds with 3rd coming Friday. Getting mixed messages about the likihood of hair loss. Was going to be pro-active, get a short cut and fit for a wig. Now I am not sure if I should wait and see what happens. What has been your experience. If you did lose, how long after beginning treatment, especially if this combo of drugs.

Brow serum?? What? Where??
What about hair regrowth. I’ve been trying the Revolve products but could be hype.

@gamaryanne
I am trying the Newlastin. Again I haven’t been very diligent about using it as a I have been using the temporary tattoo eyebrows from amazon. I figure it can’t hurt. I am not even worried about my hair, I kind of like not having to deal with it, lol.

I had very little hair loss at first then after my 3rd chemo a few strands at a time. After round 5 it began to fill my brush. I decided to get a buzz cut. I had Whipple surgery then 6 more chemo treatments. My PC was dx as stage one and 1yr after my last chemo my hair has grown over 4 inches. I believe hair loss would be determined by the dose of chemo received. I only had treatments for 1 hr every 2 weeks so you may see different results. I suggest as short of a cut that you are comfortable with.

@baravelli Mine actually did start falling out after the 3rd treatment. I had it cut really short and the next day buzzed it down, because hair kept falling out everywhere and was just annoying. I was able to get a couple of wigs free from a cancer support organization. That's really helpful.

Glad you had free resources ❤️ for those that don't I found a few from Temu that were under $20 ea. I took the one I felt looked most like my hair color and had it heat styled at the local beauty school. They charged very little and I still spent less than buying one from a local wig store. They all had the same vented lace cap, size adjusting straps and at a fraction of the "big" wig stores if anyone you know doesnt have access to free wigs please share this option. Temu credit is processed quickly. Customer service advises that once the USPS scans the code on the provided return label that the credit to your card is processed. I have seen my credit post within 24 to 48 hrs on my cc account

Hair loss at about 2 weeks from start of Gem/Abraxane. It did start to come back when I had been on a break & did not have chemo for four months. Unfortunately, I had to restart chemo. Now on a break after 40+ treatments & my husband saw some tiny hairs starting to come out after last treatment was 18 Dec. 2025 🙂

after treatment 3, once it started falling out it was nonstop and should have been in gale force winds to make it faster, lol. I shaved it as soon as I could. Eyebrows and eye lashes held on the longest, made it to treatment #9 until they left me, I miss them the most but have found eye brows on amazon, work pretty good! After switching my treatrment to every other week I have some growth, but probably not enough for it to look nice, # 19 coming up.

@corieg Hi, I have been on Gem+Abraxane since 10/10/26, starting with 3 weeks on/1 week off. Lost my hair after second treatment. Heartbreaking. After 4 months, I was so sick, not one good day. They switched me to every other week, and I feel much better. A little life back in my life. I also see my hair coming back a bit. Is yours still growing? I don’t want to get my hopes up that I’ll get my hair back, but they are rising. No brows or lashes to speak of yet. I had been on FOLFIRINOX in 2019, which got me to SBRT radiation, which got me 7 years. So grateful. But the pancreatic beast is back, metastasized. I must say it would make me very happy to get my hair back. Looking forward to hearing if anyone else might have had hair growth on every other week Gem+Abraxane.
