Severe tortuosity and redundant colon
I had a colonoscopy for symptoms of unexpected weight loss, severe pain, bloating, early satiety and chronic vomiting with bowel movements. I have had these symptoms for years (15), but they have increased in frequency and severity. The doctor discovered severe tortuosity and redundant colon. He said he had to get help in moving the scope through manually the very tight turns and twists. My question is: What medications have proven successful to management? Best diet? Doctor said it was so bad that surgery may be the best course of action, but they try and avoid that for obvious reasons. Anyone have a success story?

As a septuagenarian, I just had another colonoscopy yesterday, probably my 7th or 8th one. Anyway, for the first time, the doctor reported that I have a tortuous colon and the colonoscopy was difficult as a result. I have never heard this before from previous colonoscopies.
Anyway, I am planning to use this new malady as in:
"Take it easy on me, I have a tortuous colon."
"I need to sit down, due to my tortuous colon."
At places like TSA: “I have a tortuous colon, may I go to the front of the line."
At hotels: "I am a septuagenarian with a tortuous colon, so I need some accommodation. Can you upgrade me to a suite."

2 ReactionsOMG! I am 60 and found out about 5 years ago that I have a tortuous redundant colon but I am not as clever as you! What a wonderful idea! 😁😆
So back to the original question… Does anyone have any answers to help with a torturous colon. Any medication’s any foods any treatments? My loops are collecting stool and causing problems. Any suggestions are welcome thank you.

My GI DOCTOR SENT ME TO A COLON SURGEON. I THINK YOU CAN GET MORE answers. Go to physical therapy for pelvic floor exercises, this is a necessity. Speak to a nutritionist.
To find out exactly how much and what to eat. And when. And make sure you rest.

I found that when I did pelvic floor exercises which I was taught by a physical therapist.I got a lot of relief. I also started yoga, and if you can't move around a lot.Do chair yoga. Speak to a nutritionist, so that you can get the right foods for you. And also I got more information and help when I went to a colon surgeon. I was surprised that that doctor didn't immediately want to cut me up!

1 Reaction@annpeters Before work I drink a small glass of water each morning with my medication, then sit with my coffee for at least 30 min. That gets things going for me most days. No food until after my bowel movement. I do the same on weekends but sit longer and usually will have a second one. Again, I don’t normally eat breakfast. I believe skipping food in the morning allows that warm liquid to make it through my colon quickly. I drink 1-2 more cups of coffee throughout the morning at work and drink water all day and have more with dinner. If I do eat breakfast I may or may not have a bowel movement. I also have 1-2 glasses of wine each evening and that helps. When I don’t, it is hit or miss. We eat well, cook our own meals, and try not to eat much processed food. When I exercise regularly it helps even more. I take a multivitamin, additional vitamin C and D, magnesium and iron. I don’t know if that will help or not! Good luck!

1 Reaction@julsnealey Ugh! I feel like you are describing my life! I have had 17 abdominal surgeries for various medical issues. The most recent was a hysterectomy. I think that is what did it in. My GI doc said my entire colon is smushed on the right of my abdomen and has compressed my bladder into a U shape. I have found that I cannot eat anything with corn and my favorite vegetables like broccoli will cause a back up. It is like take my breath away pain. Have you tried linzess? It seems to be helping with the constipation.
Hang in there, I am sorry you are going through this, but it is comforting to know someone else is experiencing these symptoms. Safety in numbers?
