Does anyone have experience taking low dose Remeron for sleep?

Posted by con123 @con123, Aug 28, 2023

I'm having terrible insomnia in the last stages of my Klonopin taper and my doctor prescribed Remeron. I have not started taking it yet but after some totally sleepless nights, I'll feeling desperate. Just wonder if anyone can give me their experience.

Thanks for responding to my post as I really appreciate it. How did you get your sleep neurologist as that does
sound like something I would like to pursue.
I went to the sleep clinic at UBC after waiting 3 years to get taken but all she tried to do was find me sleep medication total waste of time, sadly
as nothing she suggested worked.

I have been taking low dose Remeron for a long time with no ill effects. It helps greatly. I fall asleep without staring at the clock spinning. Try it.

@kmalden
That would be my idea of heaven if
I could get a night sleep like you have.
I have just found out as of Thursday night at RCH that have developed an autoamuine disease
and started taking a very high dose of prednisone which has blown away any chance of getting any sleep for 12 days now and my ativan didn't help a bit. I don't know how on earth I am going to manage getting thru 12 more days of NO sleep and of course being
The long weekend sure doesn't help. I did phone the pharmacist
and she suggested taking 2-3mg of melatonin at bedtime so I will try that. Cheers

I have had insomnia for a very long time and take Ativan 3-4 nights a week between .5 and 1mg.
but then I don't sleep for the in between nights I don't take it. I am afraid to take Ativan every night because it might not work and then becoming addicted but at almost 81 should I even worry about being Addicted??!
I have no quality of life. So I have been reading about those who are taking Remeron as I am thinking of asking my Dr. to put me on it. I have anxiety too. But i too am worried about weight gain as I have lost at lot of weigh in the last 10 years.
Has anyone experienced taking Ativan every night and does it work each night ??
I would be very interested hearing from you.
Tried cbt 1 counseling but at $250 for 50 minutes i just afford to continue.
Anyone ha any luck getting more affordable cbt -1 counseling?
Looking forward to hearing your comments. Thanks

@myhappyplace You probably saw a sleep neurologist at the clinic. I’m sorry it took so long! I waited 3 months and thought that was long. They are supposed to find what works. I suppose you could try another one. I went to Emory Sleep Center in Atlanta.

@myhappyplace I wouldn’t even consider remeron for sleep. I tried it for depression and had terrible side effects.
I am 74 and at 81 the last thing you should worry about is getting addicted to something. Try clonazepam but only take on an as needed basis. I think it would work better than Ativan. It is definitely addictive but getting a good night sleep is important.
If you are not exercising try that as well.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for your reply Dave. I have a friend who is your age and she take clonazpam every night but she take trazadon with it. I can't take Trazadon so I don't think that's an option for me.
I haven't been able to see my doctor yet but I am certainly ready to try something else that actually works. I am very tired of these sleepless nights. I do try to walk but not a keen walker in the rain.
I have an exercise bike so I need to use it a lot more.

@myhappyplace I am being trialed (unsuccessfully) on sleep medications. Why can’t you take trazodone?
