Twitching on all limbs. Involuntary spastic twitching 24/7.

Posted by ennaoj44 @ennaoj44, Feb 14 9:28am

For a few years now, I have experienced involuntary twitching in hands, arms, legs and feet in every position--sitting, laying down, etc. When family members hold my hand they too can feel the twitching response in my hand. My pcp and others are have not provided a diagnosis or treatment. I do have pernicious anemia and receive weekly B12 injections. Is there a treatment available? Anything new that would keep my limps from jumping?

I have noticed over the past year that when I am lying down or sitting back in. my recliner I will suddenly "jerk" (not to be confused with the 60's dance). It never seems to occur when I am just sitting in normal position. Sometimes I feel as if I am going to jerk right out of my bed. It seems to occur most often when I am in a state of near-dozing. I have not mentioned to any doctor because I have not encountered any here locally who seem to be interested in delving into such matters. Have you been to see a neurologist? Seems like that might be a good start. I wish you well.

Thank you. You and I might not be the only people who experience twitching ad infinitum. I hope others will join in/speak up and let's hope there is a remedy out there somewhere. You are so right to make the observation finding answers/medical professional to show interest is difficult. I did see a neurologist a few years ago and the diagnosis suggested was a possible side effect/adverse affect of Vitamin B12 deficiency. Not so sure??

Hello, I have had similar symptoms, mostly with my legs, and when first laying down in bed. Sometimes before bed if I stay up later than normal. Then I started having the same when flying in an airplane with tight quarters. And then recently my arms started jerking when I laid down. My doctor diagnosed as Restless Legs Syndrome.
You may look into this as it's fairly common.

Thank you, but this is not exactly what I am experiencing. I don't have what is described as restless leg syndrome. I do not have an urge to move, my move is involuntary a twitch and on any body limb. But keep the comments coming, there is a diagnosis out there somewhere.

I would see a neurologist. Until all the tests are done there is no way to know.
But I believe that there can be help and information that will help you.

@aldommeyer I was going to mention RLS or PLM (periodic limb movement) which both would cause similar symptoms. Another one you can look into would be FMD (functional movement disorder). As soon as I lay down or put my feet up in a recliner my legs begin to move. They move in my sleep as well. I also have movements in other areas, which is the FMD and also Cervical dystonia. These are all different movement disorders but somehow are mostly treated the same in my experience. Medication, PT, OT, and exercise.

Good luck!

@heisenberg34 Hi, did you get a diagnosis yet?? I jerked due to OSA and since that is being treated, I no longer jerk.

@aldommeyer hi!!! Have you tried Gabapentin to help? It has worked wonders for me but of course, your dr can be your best judge of what will work for you...

@ennaoj44 HI!!!! I know this won't work for everyone, but B12 and Gabapentin have solved my problems I was having like yours. Discuss with your Dr, and I hope you can get the help you need!!!

@spreels2 I'm glad to hear that you are no longer jerking. What is OSA? I am trying to make an appointment with a new pain management group. My current PM doc advertises as a pain clinic, but it's just him, and he does little for me except to increase my pump output every so often. My jerking is a puzzle. If I can get this appointment, I think they have a fairly extensive staff. I am also hoping that they will actually listen to me and look deeper into my pain... and this jerking. Keep well and be blessed.
