socks and neuropathy please read
I have neuropathy in my feet and in the tips of my fingers. It bothers me tremendously it hurts, stings burns, etc. The strange thing about it is, I feel like I have socks on and cannot take them off. It feels like sometimes they are too tight and hurting the end of my toes. I can push my skin down and it helps sometimes. I am not crazy, this is true. Does anyone else have this problem? It is an awful feeling all the time. Never heard anyone else say this. Don't know what king of neuropathy I have. Fay

I think that the elastic in my socks caused my problem in the first place by restricting the blood flow to my feet. If you must wear socks tear out the elastic. Go barefoot when you can,
About five years ago I noticed that my toes felt like they were dipped in wax, as if the skin was stiff. Occasionally I felt what I thought was the seam of my socks causing pain in my toes. The pain increased and limited the amount of standing and walking I could do. It never occurred to me that the two things might be related or that they might be neuropathy. I’m overweight and I thought it was because of my weight and aging. I bought every kind of shoe and sock imaginable to get relief. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone because I thought it was from being heavy.
Last spring we went swimming where the area around the pool was rough to prevent slipping. I couldn’t walk in it because it felt like I was walking on shards of glass. I immediately knew it was neuropathy and I saw my GP and was referred to a neurologist and I chose to see a podiatrist. I’m not diabetic and was diagnosed with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Was told that I have poor sensation and it affects my balance in addition to the pain. The doctor put me on ALA and B-Complex.
I have found that men’s thick athletic socks and cushioned sneakers help with pain on the plantar surface of my toes and feet. On occasions when I have to wear a dress and dress shoes, I arrange to walk as short a distance as possible. The last two times I cut my toenails, I cut my toes and only realized it when I noticed that I was bleeding. I have had two falls in the past six months.
Now my fingers have the same sensation that began in my toes those years ago, but no pain.
