if it is effective to address pain in feet from peripheral neuropathy. Should I expect to see a drop in levels of B-12 in serum? Should I begin supplementation now of B-12? What is consensus on this?

@blowerk1216 I'd have to say a couple of weeks maybe, it's been a while now since I started taking it. All I know is that my really bad night time flare ups haven't happened since I first started. The only reason I'd even heard of this supplement was because my doctor recommended I try taking 1200mg a day.

I've been taking Alpha Lipoic Acid for a few weeks now after my Dr. recommended it, but he told me to take 600mg twice a day.
I think it is actually making a difference in the pain.
I've been taking a vitamin B supplement for years, and my bloodwork has been good.

@mrmacabre is the B12 that you are taking the methylated type?

@dieterreuther that’s absolutely correct and anyone talking ALA must determine what form they are using

@blowerk1216 I’m not sure how many use ALA and if they are aware that if you are on blood thinners you should not take alpha lipoic acid. I, unfortunately, am one of these people. I am still trying to find something that helps with the numbness and tingling. I’ve tried every cream and potion known to man and my bank account shows it. My hands right now are so full of numbness and they feel like they are someone else’s hands and my feet the same way. I keep hoping someone can find something that works for this. All the best to everyone fighting this horrible illness!

@blowerk1216 I have no idea, it's part of a B Complex supplement that I've been taking for a few years now.

I just purchased R-ala from Amazon. It is third party tested and pure. Here it is if that helps anyone. R Alpha Lipoic Acid 600mg with Coconut Oil, 120 Softgels | Highly Bioavailable Active Form | ALA Supplement for Antioxidants, Nerve, Heart, & Liver Support | Non-GMO, Gluten Free, No Soy

Sorry I forgot to say it is manufactured by Micro-ingredients.

@mrmacabre it is important to verify the nature of the B12 that you are using, the methylated B12 is reactive in the way you need.
