@jlopez7868 after giving urine sample before third treatment nitrites were present which indicated some sort of infection. So treatment was delayed till next week..They did a urine culture then which showed no infection. Treatment didn’t burn at all. Little pain when urinating but that went away same day. Good luck

@jlopez7868 yes lidocaine. The inserted catheter which took 10 seconds. While catheter was in bcg was put through which took about 1 minute. Catheter taken out about 5 seconds. Just discomfort. I think taking catheter out after TURBT hurt more. Think after you know what’s going to happen and nurse talks you through it it’s not too bad. Good Luck, God bless.

@h2onsun Thank you for your quick response, I don't do well with pain, may I ask if you're finished with treatments and did you have side effects.

@jlopez7868 I have 4 more to go. Not much side effects and no pain after treatment. Catheter insertion is uncomfortable but tolerated with the lidocaine. Good luck

I had 6 weekly treatments. Very painful. The last treatment was Dec. 23. I still have incontinence even with the dr. prescribed mirabegron Some small spotting. At least the pain has stopped. After the treatments the pain felt like a needle shoved up my bladder. I will not do it again. I'm 87; so the alternative is not bad.

I finished my first six-week round of BCG about three weeks ago. Only side effect was tiredness for several days after. Lasted the whole two hours for five of the six doses. There was one dose I had to let go at 1:50. That dose was unusually early in the morning (7am) due to the holidays, so I think I just had more fluid in my system than usual.

My weekly urinalysis and symptoms got progressively better over the six weeks. I’ve gone from getting up 4-5 times at night to 1-2 times, and urgency/frequency are both better as well.

I’m 53m, NMIBC t1.

@janetfreeman Sorry to hear that, hope you'r feeling better. I start my treatments in a few weeks, I am 84. I never had any symptoms except for frequent urination at night, no incontinence. were those the only treatments that were given you didn't have monthly treatments?

After TURBT (January 2025), scope, 6 BCG treatments, 3 month brake, scope, 3 BCG treatments, 3 month brake, scope, 3 BCG treatments. So in total have had 12 BCG treatments. Now on a 6 month brake. Have had no side effects at all. The last 15 minutes of treatment drink a cup of water. The rest of the day I drink lots and lots of water and cranberry juice, all to flush the bladder.

@jlopez7868 Not sure yet. I have a follow-up evaluation in March that will determine one of three paths:

Best case scenario is that BCG was extremely effective and I go straight to maintenance. (3-week treatments every three months).

Most likely scenario is that I’ll do another 6-week round and then evaluate again.

Third scenario is that BCG was not effective and I get my bladder removed. I don’t think this is probable but it can’t be ruled out completely. I am optimistic it won’t go this route. Guess we’ll see in a few weeks!
