Posted by tisme @tisme, Feb 3 5:41am

I am so fed up with not being able to sleep at the right time. been awake since 4.30am or there abouts this morning, when I do that I often take ages to get back to sleep. . fell asleep about 6pm tonight. I try not to. if I go to bed at 6pm then I am up at midnight. its crazy.
I get exercise n such, but it doesn't help.

My Hubs and I take Magnesium Glycinate and it works very well. He had worse sleep problems than I did but it works for both of us. If we wake up during the night we take it again and go right back to sleep. I'm 68 and have read that most people my age are low on Magnesium.
There are several forms of Magnesium but its the Glycinate that promotes sleep.
Works great for us!

I bought a different brand once and it didn't work. So now I stick with this brand.

I have taken magnesium glycinate in liquid and tablet forms. It can assist with sleep; however, please research not only the spacing of supplements and prescriptions, but also their interactions.
I take two meds for cervical dystonia, but I need to take Citracal, D3, K2, Potassium, and somehow fit Magnesium back in. Haven’t figured out a good spacing as yet.

There are many articles online that talk about magnesium and how it can interact with other drugs.

@pmhpesp5 Thanks for posting this. I'm curious about it also. Dr advocated for this several times, but I've been hesitant. I want to get off of some drugs before I introduce more. Goal is to get off all but one and learn to adapt. Good night reading!

I was referred to Dr. Ryan Wetzler by a sleep specialist I was seeing. Dr. Wetzler also a sleep disorders specialist has expertise in insomnia. He does not prescribe drugs of any sort but works on re-setting your circadian clock. I changed from getting only 3 to 4 hours a night to now getting 8 to 9 hours a night. Main points are no naps through the day, you don't go to bed until you are really, really tired and the only thing you do in bed is sleep, no TV, no iPad, no reading. Dr. Wetzler is located in Louisville KY but provides sessions via video conference. I know everyone is different, but it worked for me.

I've had those same issues before!! I went through a period where I would just wake wide up at 3am. Then I'd be falling asleep in my recliner by 6pm!!
I finally just made myself stay in bed. It took me a few times but I finally was able to either go right back to sleep or not wake up until 6am with my alarm.
It takes time but you can retrain yourself to sleep later if you don't give up.
Hope that helps a bit 😁

I don't recall I ever had a problem with getting sound sleep in my long life -- likely because I spend non sleep time to be busy with what I have planned to do with my life, including a calendar that reminds me for next few weeks. Of course it helps a lot to be mindful of healthful food and physical exertion as well as mental/emotional/spiritual. In fact I don't even have seen with my GP for ten plus years, all without any medications, special diets, devices etc. When in my 70s I was reminded of colonoscopy, I declined because I did not see any reason.

But I do have old age impairments such as cataract and less muscle-but-more mental stock to understand what a good life looks like. Yes, I daily look for ways to make Social Connection, something one cannot do alone but we suffer much without. No wonder Aristotle says: Life in not worth living without a friend. Hum...it seems he's right...things free are most helpful! Yes it's shows up in data that even cancers, depression, diabetes T2, heart problems are fewer when we have engaging connections.
