Granuloma annulare

I have just been diagnosed with this skin condition so am just learning about it. Had blood tests today to try and find out cause and hoping nothing serious. I thought it may be from Prolia injections that I've been on for 3 years with no other problems. I've had the rash now since around April 2025 but as it was not bothering me at first and only on my inner thighs I wasn't too concerned but it graduly covered a larger area and now includes inner arms and hips. I'm hopeful it's not getting worse but dermatologist has given me some cream to try. My question is does anyone who has been diagnosed with this actually know what caused it? I know evereyone's different but just interested to see if anyone's found the cause. I've read that it can just go away by itself after maybe a few months (which mine hasn't!) or a couple of years as it can just burn itself out. Interested to hear anyone's experience.

The only time I have had granuloma annulaire was in association with Lyme disease. But that doesn’t mean you have Lyme’s. Mine was very limited. Since they didn’t know what it was, they biopsied it. Then, of course, it was gone. Cut out of my skin. Plus I was treated for Lyme with doxycycline.

I am receiving immune therapy with Libtayo for reoccurring squamous cell carcinoma. I decided a rash all over my body. I was also given a cream Triamcinolone. It helped. 2x a day for 2 weeks. 1 week off. They also started limiting my showers with soap to every other day washing under my arms and privates. Seems to have it under control.

I’m female, 51 and diagnosed at ten. Started on legs, went into remission three times when pregnant. Progressed to upper body, stomach and arms in adulthood. Remission for four years after taking hydroxychloroquine for three months. Covid took me out after less than one month. Hydroxychloroquine will not put me back in remission. Seeing results on trizepitide, lowest dose. Slow, but doctor said they are finding results with autoimmune and assistance with alcoholism treatment (not needing that, just a discussion with doctor about new findings in research). Lowest dose of trizepitide.
