Prostate Supplements

My Urologist suggested I go on Prostate 2.4 by Theralogix has anyone taken this to help reduce your PSA and help shrink the Prostate. I'm considering going on this but I can't find anything that says it actually works.

I put my husband on bunch of supplements that I read about in this book : "How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine " (it is endorsed by Cancer Treatment Centers of America) , PLUS Maitake D fraction and TT mashroom mentioned above. He also now consumes soy milk instead of cow milk, etc. He is taking Ultra Prostate Formula (Life Extension) and Pectasol. His PSA went down in just couple of weeks from 7.6 to 5.1. We will do another PSA test in July just out of curiosity. I wish that we were this disciplined 10 years ago when he started with AS .

Hey Surf! I'm just seeing this now. I have cereal every morning(Kashi) with 1% low fat milk. But I keep reading any kind of dairy isn't good for us. I was looking into soy and was wondering if I could use that as opposed to 1%. Never had soy so this is all kinda up in the air! lol

Hi Dpayton : ) - my hubby has cooked oatmeal every morning with soymilk with some water (about 2/3 soymilk and 1/3 water ). He adds some flax seed and cut up apples and he loves it very much. I add hemp seeds in mine and freeze dried strawberries , allspice, cinnamon, and some coconut oil (yummm, now I am hungry lol) . We use soymilk for smoothies too - it is very nice taste IMHO, naturally sweet and light.
We use "West Life" , organic one , unsweetened. We like that brand because it has nothing but soy in it. Some brands add sugar, or salt, or some thickeners which is not very healthy. I am sure that there are other good brands too - just be sure to read ingredients : )).

And thanks so much for asking : ))) < 3, my husband is doing great *knock the wood, and I am wishing you the same < 3.

Thanks for getting back so soon! 🙂 My gosh, that does sound pretty yummy! I tried oatmeal before and might have to go back. I do like my cereal but I'm pretty worried about everything I hear on dairy products. It does worry me a bit.

I'll have to check on the organic one you mentioned. Are you able to get it at a local store?

@dpayton Try Ripple plant based milk. It is recommended by a prostate diet expert I heard on a podcast. I have been drinking it for two years. Excellent taste, but a bit pricy. I figure I’m worth it.

Hello All:
I have switched to a combo of soy and almond milk since 7-8 years ago and never looked back to regular milk. My calcium blood levels and all else are good, just on the low end of protein.
As far as supplements go, I just started on the special mushroom turkey tail capsules from Bulk, Inc. once per day, 1000 micrograms, plus I add 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed into my Kashi cereals or Grain Berry cereals ( red sorghum, super high anti-oxidant grain), and I use Turmeric capsules a few times per week. I use blueberries or other berries in the cereal or oatmeal. Also, finally, I read that pepitas help urinary flow, so I eat about 10-12 of these seeds per day, along with 30 nuts per day.

Phytoestrogens act to block estrogen receptors when taken in smaller amounts. Phytoestrogens are plentiful in soy and are commonly called isoflavones. These fill the estrogen receptor up but they don’t do the work of estrogen, so it can take on an anti-estrogen effect. Basically, blocking estrogen receptors would prevent estrogen from doing too much, which in men you don’t want too much effect from estrogen. But it seems too much soy and it can contribute to estrogenic effects, or act like a flood of regular estrogen.

The summary is that basically soy can have both estrogenic and anti-estrogenic effects. At low doses, they can block estrogen receptors, potentially reducing estrogen's impact, especially in men. However, higher doses of soy may mimic estrogen and lead to estrogenic effects

But how much is the right amount for benefit and how much is too much?

How much soy is enough for benefit but not too much – 25 grams a day is max according to this article:

@bjroc Soy is another misunderstood supplement for prostate cancer; I read a recent article (will try to post a link) which stated that ONLY soy milk ‘might’ have any effect on cell growth.
Both fermented and unfermented soy (tofu) have zero effect on prostate cell/tumor growth.
I started eating Super Firm Tofu during SRT since it was full of protein and non-fermentable (gas). I continue to eat it because I actually developed a ‘taste’ for something that is actually tasteless…

No problem : ))) ! I am glad that I saw your question since my e-mail notifications setting does not work for some reason and if I am ever late answering it is for that reason ; ).

Yes- this soy milk is pretty easy to find here in the Bay Area. We buy it in Whole Foods because we go there often, but it is also available in Sprouts and Walmart etc. and I am sure in some other stores. : )

PS: Whatever "milk" you buy make sure it has no added sugar, emulsifiers, oils etc. For example this is a list of ingredients for one brand of "ripple milk" and you do not want to see something like this :

WATER, PEA PROTEIN BLEND (WATER, PEA PROTEIN), CANE SUGAR, VEGETABLE OIL (SUNFLOWER OR SAFFLOWER OIL), CONTAINS LESS THAN 1% OF VITAMIN PALMITATE, VITAMIN D2, VITAMIN B12, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SUNFLOWER LECITHIN, NATURAL FLAVOR, SEA SALT, GUM ARABIC, GUAR GUM, GELLAN GUM.

Try to stay away form any food that has "other ingredients" than what you wish to consume. If Oatmeal has anything else than oatmeal in the list of ingredients - stay away from it. If "milk" has anything else than a plant involved - stay away from it, and so on ; )

We bake the tofu with spices, soy sauce, and nutritional yeast, and it comes out great!
New, huge long term study of Americans found sizable dangers in consuming ultra-processed foods like sweetened sodas and processed or ready to eat pizzas and meat, pork, or fish were associated with significantly increased overall odds of death, death due to respiratory , neurological, and cancer.
