Newly diagnosed. What helps control symptoms of gas and bloating?

Hello, My husband, 57, is newly diagnosed with pancreatic adenocarcinoma. As we wait for our appts with genetics, surgery and oncology at Mayo, we are trying to figure out how to treat the gas, bloating, and abdominal pain. It would be a little easier to deal with the shock, grief, and huge unknowns if he wasn't feeling sick 24/7.
He's taking Bentyl, gas x, and sometimes pepto bismol. Eating every 1.5-3 hours. Pretty sure we're sticking to the right kinds of food, but it's hard to know.
Any help from those who have experienced this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I just got home from Mayo after Whipple surgery. I developed issues below my bra line all across I would feel bloating discomfort all the time. Worse sitting up. I read an article online that said if you suffer with gas and bloating to sleep on your left side with your knees raised up to help. Will try that myself from now on for relief. Worth a try.

I also I take bentyl but it is very slow to react and sometimes not at all. I had the whipple 4 months ago and take creon. Some have said that the creon causes the gas and pain. Not sure about that but if I cut back on creon I lose weight. Sometimes I have pain all the time. Never sure what causes it.

Is the gas and bloat all the time or just after eating? I am 2.5 years post surgery , but find that certain foods (usually fiber) cause me a lot of bloating discomfort. I get relief by taking Beano with the meal. Also heating pad applied to belly and movement (walking, squats, stretching) helps too.

•Limit gas producing foods (onions, garlic, beans, apples, wheat, dairy, carbonated beverages, artificial sweeteners, "sugar-free" gum)

*Keep a food/symptom diary and try a brief elimination trial (1–2 weeks) of suspected triggers, then reintroduce one at a time to identify main offenders

•Eat slowly in effort to reduce air that is swallowed

•Eat smaller, more frequent meals rather than large ones, which can slow digestion and increase fermentation time.

•Trial use of simethicone (over the counter) if approved by your doctor.

•Take a gentle walk (about 10 minutes or roughly 1,000 steps) after meals to stimulate the gut and help move gas along

•Get medical evaluation if gas is new and persistent, or accompanied by weight loss, blood in stool, fever, vomiting, or significant abdominal pain.

•If you were prescribed pancreatic enzymes (like Creon, Zenpep, Pancreaze), take them with every meal and snack, not just big meals.

•Some of these recommendations were from my gi doc.

*I had chemo and the Whipple surgery.

All my best 💜

I take creon and it causes gas and bloating. I tried cutting back and I lose weight. A friend does not take enzymes and no painful gas. I take all the anti gas pills on the market and sometimes take 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water. Might try that.

I also take a probiotic with meals as well as the creon to help elevate gas.

I just take a womens health probiotic from costco, your Dr. or nurse may have suggestion. I take one wih my morning meal and cron pill and one with my evening meal with creon pill. I had to find a balance with the creon pills as it gave me gout (not fun) one of the side effects of it, apparently I am sensitive to the uric acid build up. I have also changed my diet slightly to help also more fresh leafy greens, oatmeal with berries and less meat especially red meat. This has helped me regulate my intestines. I also exercise daily to keep the oxygen flowing in the blood, getting fresh air clears my mind and keeps me peaceful.
