@stroppy
I have the same issues. My sinuses are fairly clear although I do blow my nose quite often. Decades ago I had sinus surgery and they open up my sinus passages to prevent sinus infection. It really help stop sinus infections but causes massive drainage down my throat.

But now I have had the added problem of the same build up of mucus and phlegm in the middle of throat. It kind of builds up and then I cough it up. I was told could be silent GERD could be cause and my throat to be sensitive and create more phlegm in the throat and sinuses.

I was also told by my Primary Care Doctor (Mayo) that the Vagus nerve can be irritated and cause phlegm to be created.

For me it seems certain foods create more of this and or hard to cough up. My PCP is exploring ways to treat.

@jc76 Thanks for replying, I greatly appreciate it. I haven't had surgery on my sinuses but I have had post nasal drip on and off for at least twenty years or more but made MUCH worse after the recent chest infection. I also suspect silent GERD but I am on GERD medication...the strongest dose of Nexium and Tasac so I just don't get it. I am thoroughly sick of it all, as, I imagine, you are. To cap it off the coughing has irritated the upper spinal area (which has arthritis in it) and it hurts! Anyway...thanks again and best of luck to you.
