Looking for a decent portable nebulizer

Posted by raybo @raybo, Jan 19, 2025

So many of these look the same with a different name and fizz out in short order. I’m taking a long trip soon and need one for those times you are not in your room. Suggestions?

Thanks for your review Sue. But does Medicare cover this nebulizer at all?

Jump to this post

My research showed me that Medicare does not cover it because it is considered “portable.” I paid less than $800 for the nebulizer and an extra handset and some additional parts. (It comes with two nebulizing meshes already.) I can’t remember who I got it from but it is easy to find and that company consistently has it $200 less than everyone else. The day I bought it they were offering an additional 30% off but they seem to always have deals for new customers. With Labor Day coming up I bet they will have another sale. Worth every penny.

The Pari Trek-S has been fantastic for me on short and longer term trips (a month). Haven’t had any issues. I bought the portable battery so I charge it during the day and then can move around the house with it during treatment. I use the Pari Nebulizer cups which can be boiled. I typically soak in warm water and dishwashing detergent and then boil for 10m after rinsing. (if you don’t have a sterilizer while traveling).

Hello kdiago1564
please, how do you get it dry, so it keeps from air contaminants. Another question is do you manipulate every part of the cup to reassemble it? Thank you and please I welcome views on the subject which I feel the most difficult part of ACTs

I have the Mikiss that I got from Amazon and I really like it. It also has a self cleaning cycle. https://a.co/d/dvr7NnD

@sueinmn Thank you for asking. That’s what I’ve been trying to find out. I lost the manual. How do you sterilize mesh nebulizers? I’ve been washing with soap and non NTM water, while I use a baby bottle sterilizer for everything else. Did I hear that mesh cannot be steamed or boiled?

@cyndanna Whether you can boil or steam a mesh nebulizer depends on the specific unit. I previously owned one that could be boiled, but it is no longer sold.
I currently own the very expensive Pari eFlow Rapid, and it has done just fine with being soaked in antibacterial Dawn, rinsed in filtered water and weekly boiling in distilled water.
Cleaning according to the Mikiss instructions on the Amazon site, or simply using soap and water, increases your risk of getting infections.
Inexpensive self-cleaning mesh nebulizers typically cannot be boiled or steamed, but some may be able to be cleaned by soaking in alcohol. The question is how this will affect the mesh.

@sueinmn Thank you. I have reached out to the company to see if I can boil or steam. I thought that was why I bought this one… but I want to be sure. I agree, not sterilizing is a concern.

I use the Parí Trek S which is a travel nebulizer. It’s not a mesh which I don’t like. The Parí works well, maybe not as strong as a regular plug in but I’ve been using it for over two years whenever I travel and it works fine. Comes in a nice little case and I can fit my Aerobika and some saline vials in it.

I have had the Naweti Portable Rechargeable Nebulizer for 6 months and I love it! It is mesh. Very similar to the Phillips Go. I bought it on Amazon. I boil it in distilled water after every use for 5-10 minutes and it holds up great. I had the Phillips Go but it quit working after several months. I had luck for awhile letting it set with white vinegar in the reservoir for several hours but that eventually didn't work either. I'm hoping the Naweti will last much longer.

@rockinkranch I only boil the top part of the Naweti, the part that holds the albuterol and saline.
