Nephrologist question

Posted by sarg27 @sarg27, 2 days ago

I have stage 3b CKD and have had it for about 6 years or so and I had never been recommended to a nephrologist? Is that normal?

Has your primary care doctor ever offered to refer you to a nephrologist? If not, I certainly would check and see if that can be done! Will you do that and let me know, please?

@gingerw no. My doctor never did and she left the practice and you can only see a nurse practitioner now. If you want to see an MD you have to wait for 1/2 a year. But everyone is using NP’s as their practitioner’s around here. Anyway she has never said anything either. Not that there is anything wrong with NP’s, I’ve known some great ones, but idk if she can even refer me. Maybe the doctor has to 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will ask her next time I see her. Thanks

@rawland1 sorry can’t spell. It’s CKD 3B. 3b means the stage I’m at.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 3b is defined as a moderate to severe loss of kidney function, characterized by an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between 30-44 mL/min. Symptoms may include fatigue, swelling, nausea, back pain, and abnormal urination. This stage requires careful management and regular checkups to monitor kidney health and prevent further decline

@rawland1 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Being told you have Chronic Kidney disease [CKD] can be pretty confusing, right? Here is a link to show you the different stages, which are based on your eGFR [estimated glomerular filtration rate] number.

As you will read here on Connect, and read in your studies, different stages can affect people very differently! Take your time and learn what is best for you. Please let me know if you have any questions?
