I know that story…..like you, don’t give me another drug without a good reason.
Turns out my Dr neglected to tell me that by going on Kevzara it would help me wean off prednisone. Voilà…..it worked . It’s a biologic I self administer by shot every 2 wks. 4 months after starting I was off prednisone, no major side effects, and now 10 months total. I’m hoping to be off it at my next appt. We will see.
I feel your frustration and anger, and hang in there and keep asking questions.

I researched this for myself at the onset of PMR. I sought research studies
that looked at how supplements and food affected IL-6 and systemic inflammation. Not all doctors are aware of the cardiovascular risk of
PMR and arthritis so get checked and consider statins. They are anti inflammatory. CoQ10 is also helpful against inflammation.
Turmeric, vitamin D and DHEA can help as well. I went on the Mediterranean
diet and limit my gluten intake. Avoid added sugar and Stevia is the safest substitute which has been found to be anti inflammatory.

I have been diagnosed with GCA. I WAS ON 60 mg of prednisone that decreased till I was able to stop. I started Actemra infusions every 28 days while finishing up prednisone. I was on Actemra for just over a year and August 2025 I got my last infusion before a knee replacement Oct 7 2025. My daughters suggested I go to a nutritionist to help with inflammation naturally by diet while I couldn’t have the Actemra leading up to knee surgery. So the nutritionist ordered extensive blood testing and stool sampling to determine how various foods and how my body reacted to them. Then she had me on a diet that is very restricted. I have lost 30 lbs and my inflammatory markers are low and under control. No more prednisone or Actemra and I’m so grateful to be able to manage this naturally. Even my rheumatologist is going a,one with this plan and still monitoring me. I’m not going to tell you I’m without all aches and pains but to be honest with you I have cheated a little so I’m asking for what I get. To be on an inflammatory diet isn’t easy. Start researching foods or snacks before you eat and ask is this inflammatory.

I have GCA and my decision to see a nutritionist is working for me. I had been on Prednisone and Actemra infusions every 28 days. Before a total knee replacement Oct 2025 I had to stop the Actemra infusions and I was already off Prednisone thank God. But with our daughters encouraging me to find a natural way of fighting inflammation I turned to a nutritionist. From August 2025 till now I’m following a gluten free, dairy free, grain free, no sugar except natural in fruits & vegetables and grass fed beef and organic chicken and wild caught salmon & cod diet. So far my blood tests are good and my rheumatologist is going along with it.

One Big problem Medicare won’t approve anything so it’s all out of pocket.

@dahliamama I literally just started reading a pmr cookbook. Way more than just recipes. I will try some of the recipes for sure. It goes into detail how certain foods help and why/how. Im hoping it helps. Im at 20mg and wznt off prednisone as soon as safely possible.

I suggest seeing a nutritionist like I did. I was off prednisone and no Actemra infusions every 28 days. I had to stop Actemra in order to get my knee replaced. So I needed help managing inflammation naturally with diet. The nutritionist did blood and stool tests to check various imbalances so my eating could be restricted. So far it’s working.

What changes did you make to your diet? How long did it take to feel a difference? Any idea what parts of your blood were tested to determine what changes you needed to make to your diet?
