Anyone hear music as tinnitus?

Posted by sarafount @sarafount, Jan 8 1:12pm

Have severe hearing loss. And really bad tinnitus. Recently started hearing songs i have sung in the past, usually old hymns. If TV is turned up loud enough that i can hear it rather than read the words the music is not noticeable. I know this is a neurological issue but it seems to
Be associated with my tinnitus.
Anyone experienced anything like this? Sara

Hi. Yes, have moderate hearing loss tried hearing aids and cannot use as also have hyperacusis - so can't hear half what my spouse says but can hear a pin drop as an example. Had tinnitus, clicking, etc. on and off for many many years but not a huge problem.. except for few years ago when either that or something else, thought could hear neighbours music etc went on for a long time til they were not even home and could hear it.. long story short I now have Musical Ear Syndrome/musical tinnitus and it is almoste 24/7 .. it is mixed with sort of tinnitus sounds like tennis balls in a dryer. I checked into it on Internet and agree: notes of music from nursery rhymces years ago; hymns; National Anthems (usa, canada, uk)... if I see on calendar it is someones birthday marked, yep, hear HappyBirthdayToYou... Thing is it is not a whole melody but from 2 to 7 notes repeated over and over again. I put my ipad with relaxation and medication videos on next to my pillow... sometimes the perceived music/beats I hear are louder. Thing is I have a list of physical illnesses am dealing with but this is enough to drive a person over the edge! No cure, yes it's our brain. 🙁

@lacy2 thank you so much for responding. I had never heard ofMES and felt like i was the only person out here that was dealing with this issue. It can get very distressing. My tinnitus sounds are frogs in the forest, loud motor, and music. Ive found that if i concentrate really hard on one other sound, the music will fade into the background. I know i make the music sounds worse because i catch myself singing along.
And yes, there are days when you think you cannot take this anymore!

I subscribe to CALM and play sounds that work for me, like the crackle of a wood burning fire outdoors, and my favorite is a cat purring.

Sometimes I hear music, on my own, very faintly. Weird. It doesn't last long, but it happens.

My tinnitus sound is a super high pitch.

Hi I don't know if this will be any help to you but here goes..

Close your eyes & relax.
1. Listen to the noise in your ears. Literally every sound.. every pitch.. ever tune.. Just listen & breathe..
2. Don't be angry at the noise in your ears.
3. Listen to the top noise then to the second layer noise then the one under that & then the one on the side & the one under the last one keep going.
4. It's ok don't get frustrated.
5. Don't stress.
6. The noise in your ears is not your enemy it wants you to listen to it.
7. It's hard sometimes but keep doing it. The tinnitus will calm down.
I too forget to do this because I judge myself. I get stressed with life. Then I remember to listen to my ears & it actually does work💯😊

Try listening to the power of now by eckhart tolle on YouTube for free.
This Book is about Surrender & living in the present moment & asking yourself what is going on inside me right now listening to your body but not analysing the problem.
Just watching what is going on.
We are human & we forget & this is also a reminder to me aswell. ❤️
PS Sorry for those of you who have bad hearing loss the audio book will be no good to you.. Maybe there is a paperback version on amazon..

Interesting feedback .... for me, if this was the "only" thing I was dealing with (although it is moderate hearing loss, hyperacusis, tinnitus, eustachian tube dysfunction/pain - dr said no tube for me as half of them get infected....and a bit of tmj thrown in: so the Muscical Ear Syndrome is a bit much ! Also have burning face syndrome similar to Rosascea but dr doesnt know why, no cure and is so painful/burning mouth too etc etc.. and ibs/painful bladder etc. and I know I am not alone with multiple non-life-threatening illnesses also history of depression and anxiety I often wonder how I am making it through: but I must say the music if you can call it that is the icing on the cake. Sometimes the few repetative notes over and over and over for hours are familiar tunes/songs; sometimes it is the backgroun music to a you tube video and so on ... May I say though last Summer I went on a Facebook site for M.E.S. and one man on there actually at least changed "the tune" by intense concentration and I did it! However, it took a lot of mental energy. I no longer go on Facebook but readers here may be interested. Yes we have to calm ourselves down ... we are all doing our best.
