Has anyone had Prostate Artery Embolization?
Does anyone had the procedure for enlarged prostate as alternative to HoLep or Aquablation? It seems to have minimal side effects and supposedly very effective.

Please don´t forget about - Post-embolization syndrome (PES). Make a search about it, and in my case at least, it lasts more than a month. PAE for me was good during 20/30 days, where I have a strong urine stream, but subsides after this. As far as I know PAE is not a definitive solution so you must have to redo it after 2/3 years. That´s what happens to me

3 ReactionsThank you, this is very helpful.
I had a PAE over 2 years ago. Even though they only found one artery to block, it has been a life saver. I no longer have to take an Alpha Blocker. I still get up 1-2 times per night, but that is normal for an 86 year old. I had the PAE after Proton Therapy and have been extremely pleased with both. The PAE went smoothly and I some minor pain urinating for about a week. Since then I feel 10% normal.

1 Reaction@vernscw The literature, indicates that the procedure works best on prostate there rated is being exceedingly large .. Ask AI “ What is a success rate for PE overtime and does it work best on moderate or extremely?” Very enlightening. I am eight days post PAE. First 72 hours post procedure were brutal in terms of pain. Now improving each and every day and I’m hopeful of a very positive outcome.

Keep us up to date. Thanks for sharing!
@adacol , I don't remember writing this. I never had PAE, I had HoLEP. I never use AI and my knowledge of PAE is that it doesn't last long. In fact I read it doesn't work well on large prostates. I have no idea how I got connected with that statement.
Ok sorry to bother you.
I had a PAE in early March 2025 performed by Dr. Arbett. The procedure was painless and the post-procedure was relatively painless. Orange urine for several days from a medication. After 7 days I was back to normal. Sleep through the night and no more 10-second warnings from my body that I am about to urinate. Dr. Arbett and his team were fantastic. Great procedure that changed my life.
