Has anyone treated their osteoporosis without drugs?

Posted by hemigal04 @hemigal04, Sep 20, 2025

Hello all … I am a 68 y/o lady, 5’1 and 115lbs. I have always been petite and of small stature. I recently went to a new physician who ran a battery of tests on me, which all came back great, except for my Dexa scan which came back with a T score of -3.8. The physician immediately wanted to write me a script for Fosamax. After reading about it, I am freaked out. Here’s a bit of background on me. I have never smoked, don’t drink and am fairly active. I still work part-time and love being active. Have any of you tried to combat osteoporosis from a “natural” healing angle? I have NEVER taken any meds, gosh I never even have the need for aspirin, as I don’t experience headaches. Looking for some input from actual people. It’s way too easy for a physician to write a script as I truly believe they are in cahoots with the pharmaceutical industry. My apologies if I have upset anyone. Any information, experience or feedback you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading my post.

@nycmusic, were you still on Prolia when you started taking Ultra Bone-up and Regular Bone-up? Are you taking these supplements along with Vital Proteins Collagen Peptide?

In my breakfast protein shake I add 2000mg of Vitamin C, 1800 mg of Lysine, 2000 iu of Vitamin D, 200 mg of Magnesium Citrate, with banana, strawberries and blueberries and daily exercise and have been doing so for many years, plus over the last 8 years I have released 140 pounds to avoid knee and hip replacements, the major glitch was a bad reaction to the Covid vaccine 31/2 years ago where I developed reactive arthritis in my right knee joint and my left hand along with myacarditis for about 6 weeks, my left hand is still problematic along with my right knee but keep going and use it or lose it but I will never ever touch another drop of any mRNA vaccine again a lesson learned

@yds you may have me confused with someone else…I have never taken the meds/supplements that you mention…I hope you find the answers you seek.

I understand your distrust of the Dr who wants you on fosamax. I experienced the same thing. Medicines are what Drs know. Every hammer looks for a nail but it may be that he genuinely believes it best. I said no because of risks associated with taking it. Sudden fractures and more. I would suggest you look into calcium citrate, Vitamin D, weight bearing exercises, and there are other supplements that are supposed to be bone healthy. Find out about them but be careful the supplement market is full of unproven jazzed up claims.

During chemo I stopped prolia and waited until my next Dexascan. I should have started back right away but I chose to wait. When I received results of -4 on the Dexascan, I immediately went back onProlia, and began to research what else could be done. My sister is a great researcher and found BoneUp. Right now, I am getting a dental implant, so I went off Prolia for four months, then had jaw surgery in September. I just had the implant screw put in my jaw, so at four months again. I will wait until the all clear in May, to get the crown, and then I will be back on the Prolia. It will be 13 months later that I start back.

Is your equivalent of Algaecal plus cheaper?

Jump to this post

@rete new chapter bone supplement is a bit cheaper…comes in a version of tiny tabs…recommended dosage is 6 tabs, but you can choose your dosage…available on Amazon. Some people choose another route, taking single supplements instead of a combo, to get precise amounts of what they want.

@yds Yes, I continue to take the Collagen Peptide with my morning coffee or tea. I see lots of improvements in my joints from it. My doctor did bloodwork to make sure I wasn't getting too much D in May, but it was perfect!
