BHRT plus bone supplements with algae derived calcium plus strontium

Posted by marjoram2 @marjoram2, Nov 20, 2025

I am 82. Three endocrinologists have recommended Evenity to me. I am concerned with black box warning. And I don't like that after 1 year one must go on a different bone med--most of which also have scary side effects and produce some kind of frankenbone.
Years of blood thinners and thyroid meds have apparently eaten my bones despite regular weight lifting and trying to stat fit. I have lost several inches and have T8 and T9 vertebra fractures. Changed from Warfarin to Eloquis blood thinner (hopefully for the better).
In checking around internet, I notice the most satisfied older women dealing with osteoporosis seem to be doing well on BHRT along with Algae based calcium/mineral supplements and strontium. I recently started using compounded BHRT cream based on saliva test along with these bone supplements plus strontium. Anyone have thoughts or experience based on this approach (along with high protein diet and exercise of course).

My ent said he would not prescribe hrt, I would need to go to a gyn for that. It is because they need to continue to watch you. I had no problem getting it from her. I am 77. Used to be thought you had to just be finished with menopause. But not anymore.

That is good advice, I think that every one on BHRT/HRT should have a regular uterine ultrasound. I have one every 6 months at my gyn, if nothing else it gives me a good idea of how much vaginal estriol to use based on the uterine depth.
Plus, you will need to see your family doctor and make sure that your cardio system is healthy. The thinking is that when not on BHRT that your cardio system becomes stiffer and more likely to have plaque build up then when BHRT is introduced any accumulated plaque may break loose when the system becomes more pliable.
This is one reason so many menopausal women choose to use Vit k; to keep calcium in their bones not their cardio system.

Thank you. I am talking with BHRT people locally and now they want my Cardiologist to sign off because I have an arrythmia that is being monitored with medication. I know the Cardiologist will not do this so it just keeps circling around. I have a second opinion EP Doctor visit 2/5 and I will ask her about this also. I haven't given up yet.

Be sure to use Bhrt topical/vaginal. This combo has the safest profile with the best results for your whole body. Oral of any kind BHRT or HRT is subject to the problems with first pass in the liver so it is best to go the topical/vaginal route.

@kathleen1314 Still waiting for blood tests. The medical center I went to is more of an aesthetic clinic. The employees are all Mds or Np's. They do surgeries, so I guess they are medically trained. What they are suggesting is a pellet that is put under the skin and replaced every 3 months. I know an 80 year old seeing them and is doing well with topical creams. Leaning against pellets and hoping they will consider creams till I see if the treatments agree with me. Would be tough to dig out a pellet if I had side effects. I am told vaginal doesn't become systemic.

Yes, I frequently will change my topical cream depending on my symptoms; I could not do that with a pellet.
I personally prefer the saliva tests; they are have become much more accurate. Several times I have had a serum and a saliva test at basically the same time and then follow ups on the serum; each time the saliva test reflected any change in my prescription immediately whereas the serum test took much longer.
