@dalebout123 When your car sputters or does not run well. you check the oil and put some in if needed, if the gas gauge says empty, you put in gas. But if you go to the auto repair shop for them to check over, they will give you a big laundry list of expensive repairs that may or ,may not be needed. My husband was a mechanic. Did you know that if your check engine light is on, it is usually because you did not tighten the gas cap? If you are unaware, they can tell you that you need a new engine.
