Hi Sancha,
Welcome to Connect. Your concerns about third-hand tobacco exposure where answered in this Mayo Clinic Expert Answers article by Dr. Lowell Dale. http://mayocl.in/1GMWhIZ Here`s an excerpt:
"Thirdhand smoke is a relatively new concept, and researchers are still studying its possible dangers. Thirdhand smoke residue builds up on surfaces over time and resists normal cleaning. Thirdhand smoke can't be eliminated by airing out rooms, opening windows, using fans or air conditioners, or confining smoking to only certain areas of a home."
Have you considered looking for a new apartment?
Hi Sancha:
Welcome to Connect. There is second hand and third hand smoke issues. It can be in furniture, walls, drapes. So when you smell it, it's the real deal. Not good. I began a 35 year career in the airlines when there was an ashtry in armrest of every seat on the airplane's 727 to 747's! My uniform would still stink of second hand smoke after it had been at the dry cleaners.I honestly have not heard of any method that takes the "cigarette smoke" smell out. I believe there may be some risks living in this environment as well. Where do you live? It this an issue in the entire building?
