cognitive behavior class
Mayo has a twelve week cognitive behavior class designed to help people with chronic pain issues. The class meets once a week for an hour and a half. I will soon be starting this class and would welcome advice from other members !

Thank you for the information. I am actually interested in the 3 week program. I live way too far to go weekly. I assume when you take this 3 week course, you have to get your own housing????? Meals???? Glad it works. I am certainly going to look into it more thoroughly.

Losing weight is a great idea, as it really does take off the pressures on your joints. I had weight loss surgery last year and I've lost 90 pounds. The pain in my knees are gone. I am assuming that my other issues would be worse if I hadn't lost the weight.
Good for you and keep it up!

Typically weight is not an issue. A mess up with thyroid med resulted in 20 lbs of extra weight. Now, try to get it back off...grrrr.
@sandytoes14 Nor do I live close enough. It seems the medical system here is so archaic. I do what I can. I eat only whole foods and avoid refined foods. Will admit there are times I want to eat like others in order to have some social contact. Not worth thus. CBT is helpful. Unfortunately the therapist I have worked with for a while is out of suggestions. Misanthrope, no hope.
My pain doc suggested CBT and a therapist. He is wonderful, but he really hasn't been able to help me as far as managing my pain. He has helped me with other issues. It's been a while since I've seen him. I am thinking about going back because this current situation and pain, as well as my pain doc telling me about how i have to 'live' my life, I am getting depressed. I guess I need to make a phone call.
That stinks. I have been on thyroid meds for years. I really don't know how much it really works?????
@grandmar I do not recommend not taking thyroid medication. My thyroid does not produce any hormone. I went off of it once because I knew the doctor had the numbers wrong. I highly "do not" recommend doing thus.
