Results of DEXA after 1 year Evenity
I finished Evenity 12/25 and did a DEXA today. I have not seen the provider.
Results: 1/7/26 Lumbar Spine T-score -2.9 . Prior 11/21/23: -3.8.
1/7/26. Neck Left Femur T-Score -3.5. Prior 11/21/23 -3.8
There was for some reason no report of the right femur. The prior 11/21/23 right femur T-score was -3.5.
Trabecular bone score was not reported 11/21/23 but was reported 1/7/26 and was 1.154 which means degraded microarchitecture. This seems to be a newer element of reporting as I have not seen this on my prior tests.
The density of the left femur increased by 9.1% which is a statistically significant change. (I don't know where the radiologist got this from; it seems incorrect to me. I don't see a 9 % increase in the left femur-it went from -3.8 to -3.5 which is not 9%. I am going to email my provider about it)
So some good results for lumbar spine but not much change on left femur and trabecular shows the worse reading (degraded architecture).
The relative risk fracture is 7 times that of a young healthy adult (compared to 14 times for 11/23 report.
I feel the results are pretty good, not as good as I had hoped but I will discuss with my provider in a few weeks. I did not have any issues at all with Evenity (no side effects) and am overall glad I started treatment. I am not sure what is next: Reclast has been mentioned but I will find out. I plan to continue treatment. I hope to be able to repeat Evenity at some point also.
Any comments?

Bravo! Those scores are encouraging! You say you had no side effects. (Also encouraging!) Did that happen naturally, or did you do anything to avoid them? Some people talk about taking Tylenol before injection or drinking a lot of water. Let me know if you have any tips for the journey. I start Evenity this month.
@isabella5 Thank you for your comments. No I didn't really take any pain meds or need to. I may have had mild discomfort at the injection site a few hours but not enough that I felt I needed meds. Of course, this is all subjective and pain is that for sure. I didn't drink more water either. I wouldn't say not to do these things but for me it was not necessary.

1 ReactionThank you, Deborahla! Best wishes for your post-Evenity journey. Unless convinced otherwise, I plan to do Reclast.
@deborahla - thanks for your reply. I'm also 72 and plan to take Strontium Citrate after the course of Evenity shots is finished. My HRT is being modified to address bone health. Then I'll get a REMS scan to evaluate my progress to determine next steps. Success stories of those taking Strontium Citrate on Inspire.com have convinced me that it's at least worth testing out for myself.
Thank you for your comments. I was not aware of Strontium citrate. Are you planning to take this on its' own and along with hormone therapy to address osteoporosis?
@deborahla Make sure the DEXA results are comparing apples to apples. For example, you can't compare the femur density to the neck density. For the spine, they may show the average density across L1-2-3-4 and compare that to the same average from last time. It's annoying that we often don't get good explanations and are stuck with having to find out on our own!
Thank you for your comments. Yes it was strange that the report was done at the same facility but had some discrepancies. I have emailed by provider about it but it may be a few days before I hear anything. Regardless I will see the provider in a few weeks and I will update my post.
@deborahla - Yes. I am already on a low dose of hormones, but have been waiting for months to get an appt to modify them to address bone health. My labs indicate that all the levels are too low to make any impact on bones.
There are numerous studies and testimonies of success in using either strontium citrate or hormone therapy to successfully address osteoporosis. I will have to wait until after the Evenity treatment to introduce SC, but I can benefit from the hormone modifications in the meantime.
