I wasn't taking Wegovy while I was taking Prednisone but I was started on it after I tapered off Prednisone. . My endocrinologist has been working on reversing my Prednisone induced metabolic syndrome. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9772659/
-------------------------------
I have lost a signinficant amount of weight (30 pounds) on Wegovy. By promoting significant weight loss, Wegovy can improve insulin sensitivity, meaning my body is better able to improve my insulin resistance that I acquired from Prednisone.
Don't let anyone convince you that Prednisone side effects are easy to manage when you know how. Also ... the side effects don't go away as soon as Prednisone is stopped because there are some that might be permanent.
My endocrinologist thinks I have plateaued and have reached my maximum benefits from Wegovy. As soon as I finish my existing supply of Wevgovy, I'm being switched to Zepbound which might provide some additional benefits.
I thought the endocrine adverse effects of Prednisone were hard enough to understand but the metabolic adverse effects are just as complicated. I'm somewhat ashamed that I have resorted to these medications. My endocrinologist said the metabolic adverse effects from Prednisone might be permanent if they aren't treated.
I consider the weight gain from Prednisone to be the last side effect from Prednisone that I need to overcome. I'm not morbidly obese but I do have a lot of fat that was redistributed to my belly. I could benefit from losing at least 30 more pounds.

@dadcue thanks for your reply. I battled the food cravings successfully with Metformin the first time but struggling this go round and the holiday season is not helping, lol! I may try intermittent fasting first to see if it reduces my cravings. It’s a mental battle I know I can win just have to get focused and also get my exercise in on a daily basis. Guess I better write some reminders on my bathroom mirror! Happy holidays!
I was taking Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes before I developed PMR and went on Prednisone. It has worked very well for me. Despite Prednisone my last HgbA1C was 5.3.
The Prednisone did seem to blunt the appetite suppression. I had lost about 40 lbs on Mounjaro, but have been stable since starting prednisone about a year ago. Down to 7 mg Prednisone and hoping Mounjaro appetite suppression kicks back in as I further taper.
Happy Holidays to all.
I was diagnosed with PMR in early July and was started on 60 mg of Prednisone. At the same time my PCP started me on low dose Tirzepatide. I am currently down to 15 mg Prednisone have only lost about 10 pounds. Have struggled a lot with emotions and frustration over not losing more weight and fatigue. My doctor is pleased with my progress. He keeps pointing to the fact that I have not gained weight, which I know he’s right, but I had hopes of loosing far more. Last labs showed glucose 85 and A1c 5.5, cholesterol 154. I am on Rusivastatin. But this is the lowest this has been in over 20 years! My sed rate which started at 88 was down to 20; has crept back up to 30. Glad to have this group to share this journey with.

@dadcue I was started on Mounjaro to reduce the sugar after getting Prednisolone induced diabetes. Reduced immediately . Has also helped me lose a lot of weight. I am also on Tyenne which is also known for putting on weight . The weight has stopped coming off but not going up thankfully. Still on 5mg Pred plus Methotrexate. Don’t know where I go from here!
Thank you for your comments.
I have to believe that if one can stay or get to “lean and limber” surely this will benefit going into remission or help one from going into another flair. I have no scientific evidence of this but common sense tells me it can’t hurt to try. Please let me know if you are “lean and limber” but still struggling with PMR. In other words, does this disease have anything to do with obesity? Can WE reverse this curse by simply getting in the best shape we possibly can which includes a strict diet, exercise and stress management.

I'm "limber" but still not so "lean" after being off Prednisone for 5 years. I'm seeing an endocrinologist and "actively" trying to lose weight with exercise. I'm trying to "improve" my diet but I would not say my diet was "strict" and certainly not perfect.
I'm progressing with weight loss but it has been slow progress. Wegovy made the process faster, My endocrinolgist said that prednisone causes "significant" metabolic abnormalities that might be permanent. However, I'm told that I shouldn't stop trying and I should continue doing what I'm doing.
Finally being off prednisone was a huge step in the right direction. I was going in the wrong direction the entire time I was on prednisone. My excuse is that "the pain" made me do things that I shouldn't have done. I try not to blame prednisone for everything.
My physical therapist says I'm "incredibly limber" under the circumstances. Together we are working on doing things to reduce some pain.
Thank you for your comments.

I would say that I am lean & limber. I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with PMR & type 2 diabetes in June. I weigh 115 pounds and have never been overweight (thanks Mom & Dad for the genes). I hope this helps with PMR/obesity question!

I was lean until prednisone was started because that was when I rapidly gained more than 50 pounds. I was a well built muscular male and 50 pounds didn't seem like much until I lost all of my muscles.
I don't like the genes that I inherited but I can't do anything about that. I was predisposed to autoimmune conditions because of HLA-B27. Being positive for that gene isn't always a problem until you start to have problems. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK551523/

Unfortunately ... once an autoimmune disorder starts ... you are at a higher risk of having more than one. At least I haven't acquired diabetes but that runs in the family.

@dadcue I am 79 and diagnosed with PMR 1 year ago, 15 mg Pregnesone helped my pain and stiffness right away and my blood sugar shot to 600. Was prescribed Forxica, insulin, and Ozempic. Now on Kevzara, lost 20 lbs., tapered pregnesone to 2 mg, A1C 5.5 and off insulin.
