Experts on Smoldering Myoloma: Should I get a second opinion?
I live in Boise and I am wondering how I know if the hmotologist/oncologist I am seeing really knows about SMM and/or should I get a second opinion? I am between low and medium risk. Thanks all,RP

I believe right here at the Mayo Clinic you can look up hematologist oncologist based on their expertise so if you put in SMM or smoldering multiple myeloma, you might be able to find someone specific within your area.
But what I have found specially with a hem-onc is that you have to look at what they actually specialize in. specially with MGUS, SMM, MM the needle is constantly changing with the research and the information that is growing out there

1 Reaction@rustypenny, I agree with @dmdinapoli81. You might consider contacting Mayo Clinic in Rochester to either get a second opinion or a specialist recommendation. Here is how to request an appointment: https://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Many Idahoans come to University of Washington medical center in Seattle for care. I have a congenital heart defect so go there for that speciality (I live a few hours away) but they told me five states fly into them, Idaho being one. Because of my familiarity with UW, when the local hematologist misdiagnosed me with MGUS, and my numbers suggested otherwise, I got a second opinion and the correct diagnosis. My MM specialist is Mary Kwok at Fred Hutchinson cancer center in Seattle. It is part of the UWMC but have their own downtown campus. It’s a nice facility. She and the other MM specialist (there are several) are involved in clinical trials so participation in that is possible whereas it’s unlikely where you are. All the best. And yes, get a MM specialist on your team!
