Sudden hearing loss

Posted by mango1 @mango1, Nov 10, 2025

I have sudden hearing loss. Was treated with oral prednisone and received one ear injection. Hearing did improve somewhat initially but none since the ear injection . My ENT Dr does not want to continue with ear injections due to risks of damage to eardrum. Waiting for MRI . Is this common practice ? Thank you .

Happy New Year to Everyone!

Absolutely, the kind of peer support that results from talking to others about how hearing loss affects your life is a very positive step. It validates your feelings. Far too often those feelings are minimized by others who don't have a clue what people with acquired hearing loss go through. You are not alone with hearing loss. There are over 50 million Americans who experience some degree of this invisible disability.

It's important to understand that people do experience hearing loss differently, as the cause and effects of hearing loss affect us differently.

We are fortunate to be living in times when the technology that helps us is improving. Hearing aids are improving but they do not 'cure' hearing loss. Cochlear implants are among those major improvements, but they are not for everyone.

Anyone who feels their hearing loss has progressed to the point where hearing aids are not helping them should ask about the cochlear implant option. Understand that many in the hearing aid fitting professions whether they are audiologists or hearing instrument specialists, are not experts in the cochlear implant area.

I suggest that, when hearing loss reaches the point where hearing aids are not helping much, that an individual be tested by audiologists at a facility that that does CI surgery.
