Does anyone suffer from random hand cramping and finger contractures?
I am at wit’s end with a problem I’ve been having with my hands and fingers. My hands randomly have spasms and my fingers randomly contract. In particular, the fingers that contract are my index finger in my middle finger and occasionally my thumb. My fingers curl inward towards my palm and will not release for a few minutes. I saw a hand specialist last week who took x-rays and checked me for carpal tunnel and trigger finger, and said I did not have any major issues with my hands. He thought the issue might be spine/nerve related and he referred me to a neurologist. The neurologist ordered blood tests to see if I had any vitamin/mineral deficiencies and also ordered a thyroid test. All results have come back normal. Something has got to be causing the painful spasms and the finger contractions. The neurologist prescribed Gabapentin, and I just started taking it. Has anyone else had experience with random hand spasms and finger contractions?

@bones53 mine is minerals and the daughter says what she gives me is a mixture to help with the cramps. this last batch needs tweaked, gonna ask her for a stronger mix just waiting on a bottle she ordered and vile "s to ship her last few days the normal mix isn't working as well. 6 different kinds. chat after the holidays and merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Ask the neurologist to test you for small fiber neuropathy by biopsy and emg/nerve conduction test.
I get severe cramps in my fingers and hands. My husband pulls my finger until the muscle relaxer takes effect.
I have severe axonal sensorimotor peripheral polyneuropathy, small fiber neuropathy, dysautonomia and cardiac autonomic neuropathy. Mine is caused by autoimmune it can be caused by other problems. I was diagnosed with lupus, Sjogrens, Hashimotos and connective tissue disease.
I have the same issue with my right hand. EMG always come back as carpal tunnel. Two surgeries later plus release of the ulnar nerve have done nothing. Muscle below right thumb is wasting away. Other hand is fine.
Neurologist tentatively diagnosed it as Inclusion Body Myositis[IBM] which is a rare, progressive muscle disorder causing gradual weakness often starting after the age of 50.
I need several more MRIs and a muscle biopsy to confirm which have not been performed yet. There is no cure so I just have to live with it.

I also have pretty bad neuropathy in my hands and feet (not spasms in the hand, but I do in the feet). I know when I used to get leg cramps (I know it's different, but I felt pretty similar; it was often due to dehydration. That should be simple to test and treat, or cross off the list.
Seems that a lack of fluids (dehydration) will cause the cramping. Arthritis causes the finger locks. Other than medical solutions some folks benefit from home remedies. The Peoples Pharmacy online, in the library, on the radio is a good source. What works for one doesn't work for all.
Raynaud's syndrome may have this reaction. Do you notice it happening especially with coolness, AC or cold weather.
Raynaud's is more common as we age. This reaction is also found as a reaction in some drugs like statin drugs.
My husband's problem is worst in one hand. He wears a glove just for that hand. The glove is a Doctor Arthritis Glove that is a compression glove with the tips of the fingers open.
Y-E-S, and Gabapentin has done away with all of my symptoms!!! Good luck!!!
