Is there hope for small cell lung cancer patients?
Hello, I’m new to the group and my husband was just diagnosed with localized small cell lung cancer in his right lower lobe. He is waiting the final pathology report and as of right now does not want to do chemo. He is 73 yrs old
and had a collapsed left lung in 2019 and the doc who did his biopsy said that surgery is probably not an option because of his left lung is in bad shape from COPD.
Is there anyone out there that has dealt with or dealing with SCLC and what I should expect?
Thank you for reading.

@kpkxrn , I'm so sorry that you are facing this. I remember the early days of my diagnosis, when the lymph nodes in my chest were pressing on everything, making it difficult to breath. I was down to a wheeze and coughing a lot. I had completely lost my appetite but as long as I kept eating even a little bit, I wasn't experiencing the nausea that you are describing. This sounds miserable.
Has your medical team offered any advice? Anti-nausea medication?
When are you scheduled to begin treatment? Hopefully soon, as you need some relief. Hugs.
@lls8000
I have determined that I will not do the chemo regime. There are too many metastasized areas and I still need an MRI if the brain. I have read all the stuff on the different sites and I see no value in an extra 12 weeks of misery added to the misery I have been dealing with.
Thanks for the good thoughts. Doc gave me Zofran for nausea but it seems to only allow me to eat the same amount of food, still nauseous but so far haven thrown up after .

@kpkxrn, I respect your decision. It certainly takes courage to come to this point. I hope you are at peace. Have you had an appointment with hospice yet? Are you family/ friends supportive?

2 Reactions@lls8000 I made the decision to use Palliative Care . They have already addressed my pain with a more suitable drug ( oxycodone rather than Tramadol) I actually had the best sleep last night!
My husband is a saint, he has taken over cooking, laundry and bed making. I couldn't ask for more supportive friends and family, we cry and repeat our love for one another, I am blessed.
