How do you deal with out of control hives?

@darginskylisa Hives are so miserable and often unbearable when you can’t get comfortable. I had them for brief time do to a blood product reaction and it was worse than pain. So you have my sincerest empathy if this is a continual issue!
There can be underlying causes for this to happen such as thyroid condtions, blood/bone marrow condtions, autoimmune diseases, reactions to meds, allergies…the list goes on. It is important, though sometimes challenging, to find that underlying cause.

Have you been to see any specialists for your hives such as an allergist, dermatologist, endocrinologist or rheumatologist to check for underlying health issues?

@darginskylisa did you notice persistent hives before your ET diagnosis?? This was something that I struggled with often when my platelets were consistently going up

REPLY

Many of us with ET experience "allergy" problems: dry skin, itching, dry eyes. It's believed that our large, malformed platelets trigger our immune response.

With an OK from my oncologist, I sometime take loratadine (generic form of Claritin) to relieve this discomfort.
