Sjogren's, Lupus....Open Heart Surgery
Does anyone have any experience with how their Sjogren's and or Lupus diseases reacted to Open Heart Surgery? I don't know what to expect, keep fearing my immune system will attack my new aortic valve, or react to the stress, all the drugs, invasive surgery etc etc...

I had my valve replaced 7 years ago. At the time I only had sarcoidosis. It didn’t cause any problems. Well, unless it was the catalyst for my current situation! I now have Sjogrens, ANCA Vasculitis and RA in addition to the sarcoidosis! I had about 8 months before surgery to get myself in the best shape I could be considering the state of my valve! I did a wellness program and sailed through the whole thing with only a small problem with critically low platelets. Try not to worry about the surgery it won’t help. Trust God and your doctors and you will be fine!

2 Reactions@bswpb Thank you, you are so right, worrying does not help. I don't know how old you were at the time of your surgery, I am 74. I'll have to get a New Years resolution to myself in ink to get working on stamina, and physical fitness. Happy you have that behind you now. Best...
