Life is not the same
I am on several of these groups. I found this site through my search for answers about Long COVID and doctors having no idea. When I got sick, I was almost 4 years sober from alcoholism and addiction. I always went to 12 step meetings, socialized with sober friends and exercised daily. I love AA and it saved my life, however as I have this damn virus, I have to pick and choose how I use my energy that I get with the help of medications I take. Today, I had to call out from my internship (grad student) due to malaise, fatigue and feeling overall terrible. I am taking things a day at a time, which helps, however there are days when I wonder what is going to happen to me. This is one of those days. I must start doing AA online again. I miss being around people, but I don't feel good in the evenings or mornings. Meetings, in person are usually in the evenings. I have become isolated from the people that I once thought my friends. It is difficult to explain this virus to people. I miss having an active life. I recently had my 8 year sobriety birthday and have not gone to get a chip as I have not felt like it physically. I also lost my partner 2 years ago on the 18th. This time of year is difficult. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for sobriety and what I can do as it can always be worse, but I am also tired and get in the dregs sometimes. I just needed to vent. Grateful for all of you as well. Whether you know it or not, you are helpful to me.

Hello, and welcome.
This really can be a difficult season. Every time I hear "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," I want to gag.
You are to be congratulated on your courage and perseverance! It can't be easy to face those challenges.
I think you'll find lots of good information here, plus, perhaps more important, moral support.
And you have the opportunity to share with others. They will appreciate it!

Well Done!
Try this: Look in a mirror, check yourself, are you smiling, or are you down? If you are down, smile at yourself, really smile and think of something funny. Soon your smile should be real and your attitude more upbeat!
Let me know if this works for you, it does for me!

1 ReactionYes I know that all of this gcan be really discouraging. I recently have taken up duplicate Bridge. I know people say Bridge it's so much thinking and so much to learn, --it can be but I take lessons 2x/wk & it's so social and your not talking to people about any problems that you have but it's just fun to be with people on a regular basis and I take lessons in that not only helps my brain and keeps me going that gives me happiness and being with people and I don't have to do anything strenuous. I play duplicate and the people that I meet over and over over again are very nice and the lessons are fun I think you should try a new group and see if you like it or not it's very good for your brain too and like I said not expensive I think my classes are $5-7 a day when I go and I go two times a week just say it's been really fun & helpful for me. I don't feel alone and I feel that other people are in the same place that I am and are trying to to play better. It's fun!!

3 ReactionsIs it possible you could own a dog? I don't know what your living arrangements are or if you've ever had a pet before but let me just say - owning a dog, is the most rewarding life experience. They love you unconditionally, they're always happy to see you and they are so comical in their attempts to please you. Dogs are brought into so many environments to help people heal, not feel lonely, etc. There's a saying for dogs that are rescued. It reads: "Who rescued who ?" Give it some thought. Your in my prayers

7 ReactionsI did rescue for years. I do have two dogs at the moment and love them so much. They have been my best friends before and since I got this virus. I used to run every morning with my dog but can't do that now. They are unconditional lovers for sure.

Aww, they are beautiful. I know how poor health can take a person down. My daughter has been chronically ill with a bizarre range of illnesses since covid began also. She is now in the process of being diagnosed with Bechet's disease after MANY work-up's that would end up leading to anything. She'd been hospitalized twice and treated for pulmonary embolism's and no one could say why or what caused them. Finally, one doctor believed how sick she was and dug in to research and had no doubt she has Bechet's disease. She's being treated while she awaites her 2nd opinion in Boston. The moral of her story is: DON'T give up being your own best advocate. Even when they tell you, your just depressed and should go on meds and see a counselor! I think covid caused many illnesses and auto-immune diseases to bloom in our population. There are studies being done that are tracking the general health of people pre- & post covid. These are persons who had NO health issues prior and have been chronically ill since. In the meantime, enjoy those beautiful fur babies - they will be your saving grace! All they know how to do is love unconditionally, whether they're being walked, run or nothing but being with you at home - so long as they know you love them back with things as simple as petting or talking with them. My furry little girl is the love of my life with what I'm going through too (although mine is loss of function from sever spine degeneration)
Hang in there, never give up on our Lord being with you through this. Lift all things up to Him
