I had a Myectomy for HCM December 4th and was able to brush my own hair within a few days afterward. My husband shampooed my hair on the first go around and after that I was able to manage it.

@joeymopete It sounds like you are making steady and positive progress in the cleanliness department! It continues to amaze me how different we were all managed while at Mayo. I just read that Debra took her first shower right around discharge, I had 2 showers by then! The first was about 48 hours after surgery and the second was the day before discharge. The first was a logistics ordeal with 2 helpers because of all the tubes and drains. I wrote a long essay around the 1st anniversary about the experience and included that it would have been easier to be smelly and covered with bacteria!

I'm glad you shared part of your post-myectomy story with us. It's not even been 4 weeks for you, and it sounds like you are coming along pretty good.
We are all different, and each one of us has a different reaction to this major surgery, but reading what is different to others who have not yet taken this pathway is very helpful.
I took a shower the day of discharge from St. Mary's and washed my own hair. I was ever so grateful for that shower after 5 days without one! It felt so good to be clean again!
How are you doing physically now at almost 4 weeks?
Are you able to walk and do more and more each day?
When is your post-op appointment?
