Bladder conditions support: Introduce yourself and connect

Posted by Kelly, Moderator @klp, Sep 26, 2025

Welcome to the bladder conditions support group on Mayo Clinic Connect.

This is a welcoming, safe place for anyone living with a bladder condition, like cystitis, UTIs, overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis or overactive bladder. You’re invited to share your experiences, ask questions big or small, and offer encouragement to others walking a similar path.

Please take these steps to participate in the group:
- Follow the group.
- Browse the topics.
- Use the group search to find answers to your questions.
- Introduce yourself.

No matter where you are in your journey — newly diagnosed, managing symptoms for years, or supporting a loved one — you’re invited to join the conversation and connect with others.

Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What is your experience, or your loved one’s experience, living with a bladder condition? (i.e., what condition, how it’s managed)?

Do you have a question to ask or a story to share?

@klp My name is Rochelle, I am 66 years old. After two years of every test you can think of to find out why I have constant pain/burning in my pelvic area I'm about at the end of my rope. I've been told I have hypertonic pelvic floor disorder-looks like I hold my stress there-it doesn't relax..it oftentimes feels as though I have an active UTI even when I don't. My bladder doesn't empty completely, I have to self cath. once per day now. Urologist has brought up the Interstim implant, I am very leary about it. I don't feel like Dr.s understand or know what to do, I am constantly researching looking for answers, constantly fearful that I have cancer that is being overlooked. Dropped weight for no reason, and appetite is nothing like it used to be. It's so hard to be positive about life. Hoping to meet some kindred spirits who can relate and maybe offer some advise.

Im currently dealing with Prostate issues, and just received my MRI results in my portal, and not only did they see a 10mm lesion, they also said it looks like bladder obstruction. Below is directly from the report, so not sure what it means, for I pee just fine, and no issues. My follow up visit to urologist is tomorrow, so im sure he will discuss.

Suggestion of chronic bladder outlet obstruction
Urinary bladder: Increased trabeculation and/or wall thickening

@klp
Hello my name is CherylLouise I have had ongoing bladder issues for many years causing me discomfort, UTI's & leakage.

During the Covid Pandemic I suffered a severe prolapse of my bladder/part bowel causing me more major issues with my bladder. I was diagnosed by my GP in early 2022 but was unable to see a gynaecologist for 8 months unfortunately this caused my prolapse to worsen & my bladder to weaken causing more discomfort, UTI's & leakage. The operation was successful but it did not cure my bladder problems.

In February 2025 I had a prolapse repair of the bladder a successful operation, thankfully. Once again my UTI issues came back but my leakage issue has definitely improved since the operation.

I have been taking a 6 months course of low dose antibiotics since mid July 2025 and will finish the course mid January 2026 this journey has been a successful one so far as I haven't had a UTI since starting the antibiotics fingers crossed I never have another one!

I’m new to the group. I’m 75 with recurrent UTIs that typically needs a 10 day course of antibiotics.
I use DMannose and cranberry. I drink water all day.
I’ve had a cystoscopy showing nothing troublesome.
I’ve done a 6 month low dose antibiotic course.
After a few months another UTI is back. I don’t know what’s next.

@docb99 I used to have recurring UTI's and I went to a Urogynecologist and they put me o Estradiol. I have never had a UTI again. I wasn't having UTI's I had thin skin breaking down from age (68 at the time) I am now 78 and have not had the UTI's again. I had loss of hormones from age and from a hysterectomy.

I’ve been on estradiol as well. I’m 86. Sadly they don’t prevent for me but thank you.

Following bladder cancer tumor removal, I have developed constant urgency, pelvic pain. All cultures negative. I have nephrostimy stents but told not the reason. No bladder spasm med is effective. Inflamed bladder not typical UTI. Thoughts?

Seeking support for my husband’s frequent urination (25+ times a night and 15+ times per day). Have ruled out OAB, UTI, BPH, colon cancer, prostate cancer and enlarged prostate. Tried 3-4 prescribed OAB meds and none worked. Had Interstim device implanted and still no relief. Has anyone had something similar occur but received an official diagnosis or treatment plan? Have been looking for a solution for more than 2 years.

Hello! I just joined the group to learn about others' experiences with bladder issues. I've been "through the wringer" in recent years dealing first with an enlarged prostate and now OAB. Neither a Urolift procedure or the TURP helped in any way. And it seems I've tried 6-8 various meds without any success. After several years of frustration my urologist diagnosed OAB, but again, the meds for that have not made a difference.

I was also given the Interstim test about two years ago, whereby the wires are on the surface of the skin. In that case only one "lead" reached the proper location and the procedure was deemed a failure as well.

I currently have to urinate about 8-10 times a day and usually get up four times a night. At this point I am somewhere beyond frustrated, as one might imagine. Would very much appreciate any tips or hopeful info about new and effective meds or other treatments ... especially from anyone with similar experiences. Thanks one and all and best regards!

My husband is seeking help for a similar condition with trips to the bathroom upwards of 25+ a night and 15+ times during the day. As you can imagine, he is sleep deprived and is hopeful someone who also had no success with OAB meds and the Interstim device may have a nugget of information about what to do next. His urologists are stumped. What have you uncovered?
