Anyone had Pluvicto at age 90+? How were the side effects?

I sure Would not want to be on Zytiga at 90. That drug really is hard on the body. It caused me to have high blood pressure, Many hot flashes and multiple Afib Events. It’s pretty hard on the heart.

I’m 78 and was on it for 2 1/2 years, I was only undetectable one month. I switched to Nubeqa And it has kept me undetectable for the last 25 months after 16 years of prostate cancer. I know a lot of people over at ancan.org that are using Nubeqa Instead of the other drugs because it has the least side effects and doesn’t pass the blood brain barrier and cause brain fog. Many of the people over there in their 70s and 80s are just on Nubeqa Alone since it works so well, even with testosterone present.

You might talk to your doctor about other drugs. Switching out Zytiga for Nubeqa Could make life a lot better. If he does that, prednisone must be tapered off over a period of months or it will cause extreme fatigue if you stop it too quickly. Pluvicto can have some serious side effects, but it is easier than chemo says the people I know that I’ve done both.

The most common side effects of Pluvicto (lutetium-177) include fatigue, dry mouth, nausea, and decreased blood cell counts.

Dry eyes and dry mouth are commonly mentioned because Pluvicto goes after anything that expresses PSMA - not only prostate cancers, but also saliva and tears (and blood, liver, spleen, pancreas, ganglia, as well as the kidneys, ureters and the bladder (as the body tries to quickly excrete the radioligand that was injected)).

@tneal4433, age is a number. While age is certainly a factor to consider, not everyone is the same. Were you able to discuss the side effects of Pluvicto and how they may affect your father relevant to his health status as well as age? Also to be considered are personal preferences and desire to continue with treatment of not.

What did your father, family and care team decide? How is you dad doing?

We actually just did his psma pet scan last Wed and go to the doctor Monday at 2 to discuss Pluvicto and then if dad decides to do that we meet with the radiologist Tuesday. Dads in a lot of pain in his hip area and is ready to be done with it all he says. He has been prescribed Oxy which helps but he doesn’t take evey six hours as prescribed because of the addiction possibility which I’ve explained even that at age 89 (90) in Jan) is ok that quality of life is what we should strive for because of the pain he can’t do much of anything. At age 91 I've had 3 of the prescribed 6 Pluvicto treatments. PSA dropped from 8.9 to 2.2 after the first two treatments. (PSA after the third treatment is not scheduled until next month) The most prominent side effect is a dry mouth which dissipates slowly after each treatment. Since the metastatic cancer was diagnosed and ADT started two years ago , fatigue and loss of strength has been issue, which I offset partially with exercise. Other than a biopsy I've had no direct no interventions to my prostate. As Coleen notes everyone is different. I'm still uncertain whether I'll benefit in the long run from Pluvicto, but I'll keep doing it as l can tolerate what have been fairly mild symptoms so far.

I am eighty three, and i've had the six required pluvicto injections. Minimal side effects until after the 6th infusion. Since the cancer matasticd to the lymph nodes I developed lymphedema in my legs. If your cancer didn't spread to the nodes I don't think you'd have this problem. Otherwise side effects are as advertised, dry mouth, low red and white blood count. Meanwhile my psa went from 8+ to undetectable. Psma pet scan showed no matastic cancer. First time in 25 years I've been cancer free. How long will it last, hopefully til some new treatment is discovered.
