In January 2020, my ob/gyn read my mammogram from the month before. It showed nothing.
But since my older sister had breast cancer ten years before and aunts on both sides of the family has breast cancer, she ordered an MRI for July. It was then that my cancer journey began with a diagnosis of DCIS. Now until I die, every year, I will have a mammogram followed by an MRI six months later.
The protocol is that you can’t get an MRI without a mammogram first.

We are “sisters”, my DCIS did not show on mammogram either or ultrasound, no calcifications. I had a slight nipple discharge, (no family hx) so they ordered the MRI which showed the DCIS. You have a great provider, they were diligent and it paid off. I have my first screens after treatment in Feb, pretty nervous about them. I did have a small foci of invasive cancer imbedded in the DCIS. Lumpectomy, radiation and anastrozole.
How about you?

@beyourownadvocate Thank you and I wish I knew that sooner. Yes, I had cancer in my right breast but it was only seen in my left and the docs did not want to do a double mastectomy. I pushed and had the double and they came back to me a week later to say they found cancer in my previously stated “cancer free” breast.
