Same for me. I'm pretty pain free during the day when I'm moving around. When I sit too long or lay down it hurts. A pressure relieving mattress topper helps me. Also magnesium cream with arnica. Osteoarthritis hurts but we've got to keep moving.

I had a lot of shoulder, hip and rib pain when sleeping for years and years until I invested in a soft pillow top mattress and that made things so much better. It’s hard to know what works for your body just testing for 5 minutes in a store. That’s the challenge. My body is pressure sensitive so most beds feel like I’m lying on a tile floor and I’m up and down all night. Hotel beds are awful for me. Best of luck finding the perfect mattress, but the right bed is life changing.

Yes, I have been going to orthopedists for 4 years now with hip, glutes and low back. Final conclusion was gluteal tendonopathy but I also have around shoulder blades and shoulders. Cortisone injections helped but do go away. We got a sleep number bed and when I changed the setting, it got better but still have the hip and buttock pain when walking or just moving in general. Ortho touched the area around the trochanter and just hurt. He said tendons are inflamed. I was looking for other solutions but will start PT and medication. He said I could eventually do PRP but will have to see where the, once again, physical therapy takes me. When I had bursitis on one side, it made it very difficult to lay on it. Look up gluteal tendonopathy. I may start magnesium also. I have mild arthrosis in each hip but not enough for this on and off pain. I even went to get inserts for shoes to see if that would help.

@haikutaxi Where do you find magnesium cream? I would like to get back on magnesium just not pills because of fillers.

There are also options on Amazon that include arnica in their formula and are cheaper though not organic. https://a.co/d/1WVSeLe

Please get your vitamin levels checked via a blood test. My shoulder pain was due to low vitamin D deficiency and with a doctor prescribed dosage the pain left after one month and never returned. I still take vitamin D3/K2 to this day as maintenance for my medical condition but I no longer suffer from the pain I once had. It never returned. I was able to dodge another cortisone shot and 'prednisone' because of my decision to get the lab work done. I only got the lab work done that the doctor ordered for me simply because I said I didn't want the medication. Funny thing is that prednisone depletes vitamin D in your system which was the very thing that my system was lacking. Hopefully this helps.

@loyd1957 Look for Dr Teal’s at places like Walmart, Target and CVS. Epsom salts are primarily magnesium.

I don’t suggest taking ibuprofen and medicines on a regular basis to get rid of that kind of pain. The reason being is when they wear off you’re going to feel more pain and it’s only gonna get worse overtime. Having gone through this in my case, it was too fold: The first is your mattress might be too hard and the addition of a mattress topper and cushion will resolve the pain on your pressure points. The second is you need to do exercise at your shoulders and hips. Your bodies deteriorating as you age and those supportive muscles Are becoming weak. You will find if you get into rehab and physical therapy and go to the gym you can resolve that kind of problem by strengthening your support muscles. I had a problem where my hip and shoulder pain progressed at uneven intervals and if I softened my sleeping surface too much it put pain or stress on other body parts. Yes, time to pay attention to your mattress! I bought a really great firm orthopedic mattress for my back which became totally unusable to me because of the pressure point pain during this time. I put it in my guest room where and everybody loves it, and had to get a new orthopedic mattress. Then that orthopedic mattress got a great topper. Finally, I had to add a bunch of super thick and comfy pillows around my head and shoulders to support my neck, and Sleep became a pleasure again!
