Have you had any side effects using Boniva?
My Dr has suggested I take Boniva !
I am currently being treated for GCA with prednisone and am worried about implications, interactions etc.!
Anyone with similar experience ?
Thank you .

I currently take Boniva with no side effects. I also the other medications and no problems. You could also ask your doctor, or your pharmacist. They are pretty knowledgeable. Hope this helps.

I'd like to invite @sophie93, @carolann01 and @oceanblues123 to this discussion to share their experiences with Boniva and some side-effects, if they had any.
I just finished a three-year stint on Boniva. I didn’t always have a reaction, but when I did it was pretty unpleasant. Sometimes I’d become very achy and even feverish overnight after taking it. I got in the habit of taking a couple of Tylenol before going to bed the night after taking the Boniva, and that seemed to do the trick.
I am in the 3rd month of monthly generic Boniva. I’ve only had very minor gastrointestinal side-effects; however, recently I’ve been experiencing almost nightly dream terrors (nightmares), and would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. Generic Boniva is the only drug recently added to my regiment.

I have only taken one dose last month. Initial symptoms were just nausea. A few days later I had terrible joint pain, both shoulders , elbows, and hands. I could barely raise my arms out. Also extreme swelling in both legs. The symptoms lessened after 3 weeks. I am due to take second dose and I am afraid to take it.
I had taken Boniva several years ago and the reaction was very severe with flu-like symptoms and every joint had pain. My dr changed me to Evista. I took Evista for multiple years and recently had a mild stroke. My neurologist took me off Evista due to risk of stoke. My recent bone density test result was worse and I needed to start something. She explained my choices. Before deciding I researched the different medications and the cost. The injections were very costly. I talked to my dr and I decided to try the Boniva now called Ibandronate sodium. I hoped I would not have the same reaction. I took it on sat morning, followed all the directions. I felt ok on sat but by midnight ever joint including fingers and toes were in 10/10 pain. Pain eased through Sunday, no appetite. Monday afternoon I started having a toothache and headache. Toothache and headache continued through the night. Finally on Wednesday I was feeling normal again. I really do not want to go through this every month. I am normally active and feel good. I don't have an answer, but this is my experience.
