What type of yearly checkup do you have?

Posted by marshgirl24 @marshgirl24, Aug 17, 2025

It's time for my yearly checkup and originally I was scheduled for mammogram and ultrasound. But recently I read an article by a lobular expert at MD Anderson and he said for dense breasts (which I have) a lobular patient should have a breast MRI. I brought that up and was switched to the MRI, but no mammogram. Can you share what form your yearly exam takes? I have a good friend who went through Mayo and they do both MRI and mammogram. I do wish the experts could agree about treatment for lobular breast cancer. It seems relatively new and some are still lumping ductal and lobular together (no pun intended.) Thank you! This group has been so helpful for me.

My cancer wasn't lobular. I do have dense tissue in the remaining breast. Do some clinics recommend an MRI even if not lobular?
I see my surgery group tomorrow and will have a mam and ultrasound first. I suspect I will then be seen by them annually since it has been over a year since my surgery. I see oncology every 6 months as long as I am taking any AI drugs.

@ksue3 :

Hi! ksue:

I am so sorry for what you've been through lately;( We feel your pain and all, for we are your comrades fighting the disease of BC.

My diagnosis for BC was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma; and, I've had category "D" dense breast tissue, so my surgeon does physical checks on me twice a year and schedules a mammogram plus ultrasound alternating with bilateral breast MRI for me every 6 months ever since January of 2023.

Good luck with the followup visit with your surgeon today and best wishes on the journey ahead!
