Albuterol and long term side effects
I’ve been diagnosed withMAC and bronchiectasis for 2 years. Not on the big 3. I take 2 puffs of albuterol and nebulize with 7% saline twice a day. I also try to do postural drainage once a day. The past month, I developed negative side effects from the albuterol which I never experienced before, dizziness/vertigo, headaches , increased blood pressure and heaviness in my head like sinus congestion. I had to stop the postural drainage as it caused vertigo. I switched to levalbuterol and was better for a day but the same side effects resumed.
I’m now doing my ACT without the albuterol and wanted to know if this has happened to anyone. Also, can we move mucus effectively without albuterol? I exercise daily so that is helping.
Any advice is appreciated!
Lorraine

Any exercise is beneficial. But I have developed my own routine & this may seem long but in actually just a routine.
1. Wake up splash cold water on face.
2. Use my netti pot with homemade solution of 1/2 teaspoon salt dissolved in 8 Oz of warm water. Blow nose each side good. Clean nasal hairs means clean breathing.
Morning & night.
3. Drink coffee or tea
4. Ride stationary bike 2 miles, if the bike blows air in your face throw a big towel or blanket over it.
3. Next I get on inversion table & flip upside down 3 times holding down as long as comfortable.
4 Next, I get in middle of bed and do "open book exercise" 10 times each side it's on Utube.
5.Breakfast
6. Kitchen counter exercises ,lean on counter with 1 leg forward & 1 leg pushed far back until you feel burn in back leg (stretches leg muscle ( do 3x on each leg.
7. Hands on both counters & step high with knees above counter height 10x each leg.
8. Hands on counter sling each leg forward, outward to side and backwards 10x each.
9. Mullein tea time with 1,-Zinc 1-D3
10. Walk dog 1 mile
11. Lunch
12, Resistance with bands see YTube

2 Reactions@dogtag any airway clearance per se?
@lorrainewenn Let me answer your second question, "Also, can we move mucus effectively without albuterol?..." first. Yes, many people manage to do airway clearance without a bronchodilator, which is what albuterol/levalbuterol are. It may just take longer for the saline to move deep into your lungs. Exercise is an option strongly recommended by Dr Pamela McShane to accomplish this. If you have not seen her video, I highly recommend it:
I find it helpful to exercise then do airway clearance - sometimes I fully accomplish it while exercising!
As for the question about vertigo - I have long suffered from positional vertigo, and any therapy that lowers my head below my torso is impossible for me. I have cleared mucus for many years with exercise, Aerobika and huff coughing or other breathing exercises. I have been testing negative for MAC for 6 years now after antibiotic treatment, so I would say it works, at least for me.

exercise, mullein tea, deep breathing. Years ago I tried the comprehension vest , hated it, felt high anxiety. So shipped it back. So back to basics lol.
I found my old trusty "vibrator" If I developed a tender spot or felt the mucus logged in my back, I set in my recliner with my vibrator positioned on a pillow layed back & let the good old vibrator loosen the mucus Then mullein tea & major coughing. Like I say I'm using common sense & basically feel pretty dam good as a 75 year old female.

Thank you! I typically do airway clearance first , wait a bit(I’m
Catholic so I go to daily mass). Then go to the gym and do aerobic exercise like the stairmaster/eliptical/treadmill for 45 minutes. Just was surprised that the albuterol would affect me after such a long time.
@dogtag
Thank you!
@dogtag
Thank you
@dogtag what is the part you do on the inversion table? Do you just stay there with head down without movement?
@dogtag, Thank you so much for sharing your practice. It is wonderful that you use your common sense and find ways working for you. 30 years is a long journey. May I know how long you have been practicing this way?
