Hello @juliab56, many people here have had lung surgeries; resections, lobectomy, or full pneumonectomy. I’m sure some of them will weigh in. In the mean time here’s a positive post from @sonshine161: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/pneumonectomy-and-quality-of-life/
Has a Pneumonectomy been recommended for you or someone in your life? Do you/they have lung cancer or another condition?

@lls8000 Eight years ago I was diagnosed with stage 1B sclc and had my right upper lobe removed using very high tech computer assisted surgery. I have just three 1” scars. I’ve luckily been fine. I did aerobic exercise post op to help build back my aerobic capacity. I remain shorter of breath than I was pre-op but - Hey! I’m grateful. Best wishes. Modern medicine & surgery create miracles.

@tlahti1
I had a upper right lobectomy in 2014 by VATS. I was 59. I continued to play pickleball and very active after my recovery. That was around 3 months post surgery.
Best advice I can give you is that it is going to hurt. Take your pain meds as a prescribed time whether or not you habe or not to keep away pain
Also walk and do your spirometer they will give you. I have no regrets about having the surgery.
Wishing you te best

@lls8000
I was diagnosed with a right middle lobe endocrine tumor, 1st they said typical non thinking bordering on atypical.
Just had a second opinion and surgery is recommended for the best outcome. It is a large area to radiate. One said yes to radiation and the other said no. They are not sure if chemo would be successful for this type.
Tumor is very close to my heart.
After going back and forth and endless reading I have decided to go with the surgery.
I am worried about long term shortness of breath. That is worrying me the most.

I will be having the lower lobe of my left lung removed on Tuesday. Feels a bit surreal. No idea how I will feel afterwards!
