Has Algeacal been researched by Mayo Clinic or by any patient?

@2buddy For myself, I know because of the Hasahimotos blood tests before and after that dental amalgams were the cause for me.

@lilac2025 Yes, I am doing some weights but I have to be careful since I had a severe L1 burst fracture a year and a half ago. I got a book recommended by others called “Exercises for Better Bones” by Margaret Martin, which was written for people with osteoporosis. I also started taking K-2 along with Vit. D, and started a liquid form of calcium. My Dr. does have me on Evenity so I will find out any results next March when I do my next DEXA scan. Hoping for some improvement.

Just curious how long you have been receiving evenity? And if you have had any issues or side effects.
Just received my 2nd dose and I feel like I wasn’t really given enough information as to what possible side effects and when. Even the paper in the box of evenity is pretty vague on this aspect. Yes it details what the side effects that may be associated , but not really any kind of timeline. If that makes any sense!
It’s a 12 month long process.

@ga29 Interesting the D level that was suggested for you. I was taking a combine supplement from Vitamin Shopped which contains the calcium from algae, and K2 and D. My serum vitamin D level is in the high 60's now. Endocrinologist said the D level is to high and to stop any supplements with vita D? I seemed to feel better on these supplements but I went back to just calcium citrate do to him. So since an older female with hashimotos also why did he say that the D serum level was too high?

@2buddy my doctor told me too much vitamin d can leech calcium from your bones. It's such a difficult balancing act!

I have been on Evenity for 9 months now, so 3 more to go. I really haven’t had any side effects. Sometimes there is a little joint pain in the elbows (pretty mild). This could be since your elbows are close to where the injection site is. I guess side effects will be different for different people. I really haven’t had any concerns or issues with taking this. I am just waiting for my next DEXA scan in March and hope there is some improvement.

I was just curious, and I completely get that different people have different effects,
I have a lot health wise going on right now, if you asked me in august I would say I was pretty healthy. Now, I really don’t know. They (drs) have basically grounded me told me stay off hip, no work and quit smoking! Told my gp many times i would never quit. That was my one thing that I enjoyed. But, haven’t worked since September, have not smoked since October,
I did all that and started the evenity in November so I’ve had 2 treatments at this point. The fatigue and insomnia are what caught me off guard. Which is why I’m on here at 2 am. There have been other things , but I’m not sure at this point if it’s from the evenity or just my body trying to figure out what’s going on! I have no idea, really.

@2buddy years ago, NIH did a comparison of AlgaeCal and regular otc calcium supplements and gave AlgaeCal a slight edge… I did my research on ConsumerLabs, very detailed on every level…i came up with New Chapter, similar but less magnesium, better for me—and cheaper…for quick looks at labels, look up a brand on Amazon and the labels are usually one of the pictures on the left. Also, i like to see a brand is 3rd party tested.

@nycmusic I hear algae cal with strontium was guaranteed to give better bone density- is New Chapter third party tested?

REPLY

New Chapter is 3rd party tested —ConsumerLabs tested it and compared bone supplements, with high recommendations for New Chapter…it also has trace amounts of strontium…it’s a bit cheaper than AlgaeCal, probably because it doesn’t have huge advertising campaigns…. It comes in a tiny tab form, which I liked so I could gradually build up to the dose that feels best for me…one difference is the amount of magnesium is less, better for me personally.

The only clinical trials I could find were done by the company that makes it and they were very low quality. That doesn't mean it doesn't work it just means there is no real evidence that it does. There is better evidence for K-2, which is much more affordable. This is not definitive but worth checking out and asking your doctor. https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/public-health/articles/10.3389/fpubh.2022.979649/full

@kdks99 Are you still taking vitamin K-2 for treatment of osteoporosis and if so, what dosage do you take daily, and what time of day? Life Extension was promoting in its magazine something like 42 mg per day. When taking K-1, the dosage is like in micrograms not milligrams. Thanks!

I take this InnovixLabs Full Spectrum Vitamin K2 MK-7-90 Capsules - VIT K2 Vitamin Supplement with Trans Form MK7 & MK4-600 mcg - . I'm not sure if it's effective but here's a a review of research. https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/public-health/articles/10.3389/fpubh.2022.979649/full
