Seeking connection - congenital cataracts

Posted by arielbloom @arielbloom, Dec 4, 2025

Hello,

I’m an adult who was born with congenital cataracts and am now also a parent to a daughter with the same diagnosis.

I’m not looking for medical advice or caregiving questions. I’m hoping to connect—ideally one-to-one—with another adult who had congenital cataracts themselves and is now raising a child with the condition, or something very close to that experience.

This has felt like a very specific and quiet space to be in, and I’m mostly hoping for mutual understanding rather than problem-solving.

If that describes you and you’re open to a private message, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you for reading.

Welcome, @arielbloom. I'd like to bring @renm into this discussion, whose grandson have congenital cateracts.

Has your daughter had surgery?

Thank you for the welcome and for including @renm. I’m mostly hoping to connect with someone who has personal experience with congenital cataracts, either as an adult who had it themselves or a parent raising a child with the same condition. If @renm or anyone else with similar experience is open to a private message or one-on-one conversation, I’d love to hear from you. I’m not seeking medical advice at this time.

@arielbloom I can tell you what I know. My grandson was diagnosed when he was just a few old. I’m ok with communicating either way.
