Uveitis and steroid deops

Posted by walk4life @walk4life, May 9, 2023

I was diagnosed with uveitis in my right eye in March. The doctor put me on steroid eye drops. Six times a day for two weeks , then 4 times a day. The retina specialist added a non steroid anti inflammatory drop four times a day. My condition has improved and I have seen both doctors every two weeks . I am now on a taper of the eye drops - 3 times a day for a week, then 2x, etc. My question is I have been seem to be eating more and gaining weight- Could the steroid eye drops be causing this?

I have been taking steroid eye drops for 35 years. No weight gain here.

I too, have Uveitis in my right eye and was placed on steroid drops 4 times a day. My opthamologist referred me to a specialist . In the past year or so, I've had 3 retinal detachment surgeries as well. My blood work tested positive for HLA-B27 gene variant. Positive ANA last year. Anyone have Uveitis due to underlying autoimmune disorder?

I have taken steroid eyedrops the entire time as well. I receive steroid injections to keep the inflammation away. I was diagnosed with RA and am on biologics for that. I keep having allergic reactions to the RA meds and have to switch to a different med.
I am hla-b27 positive. I was diagnosed with uveitis in both eyes 35 years ago.
It has been quite a journey. I am blessed to have a great Retina Specialist.
My sisters all are hla-b27 positive.
Our children tested negative.
Good luck.

@mslee56 Great that your children tested negative! I’ve been on one biologic (Humira) , which I didn’t think helped that much. Right now my eye is stable but loss of vision. (20/400). A good retina specialist is so important.

I leave what biologics are working to my eye doctors. Rinvoq got me from an 8 to a 3 but the side effects were not worth it.
I have to be able to see well enough to drive safely for as long as possible. Early on in my disease I was legally blind. It has been a hellacious journey. I thank most of my eye doctors for my ability to see-35 years into a terrible disease with no end in sight.
If a doctor does not make it a common practice to deaden the injection site of your eyeball, FIND ANOTHEWR DOCTOR WHO DOES!!!
Happy trails and may we all beat inflammatory eye diseases.

I had uveitis for about 1.5 years. I read about immunotec, sent fir their cheaper pouches. Started with one 4x/day after taking steroids to quell inflammation. The inflammation didn't come back. I dropped to one 2x/day for a year. That was several times a year. I have no connection to the company. I read about this in a book called "winning the pain game" by Dr Bill Code, an anesthetist who developed ms and he and his wife looked for remedies for that.
