Anybody have health anxiety, particularly around blood pressure?

Posted by lma84 @lma84, Feb 5, 2025

I had very high blood pressure during pregnancy, to the point I was hospitalized for 8 days while they tried to get it under control. It wasn't preeclampsia, just diagnosed as gestational hypertension. I have been on medication for BP ever since, and my daughter will be 4 in March. I've suffered from anxiety ever since and have anti-anxiety medication... I stressed about every small pain that I felt! My blood pressure is good when I take it at home, but if I have to have my it taken at the Dr's it goes through the roof! Does anybody else have this type of problem and if so, do you have any solutions for getting a good reading at the Dr?

Yes, I like your comment very much. It does feel like my medical issues right now are serious, and I've been in crisis recently due to 3 different falls, head trauma, 3 ER visits.
And I really see what you mean about your grandmother feeling like she was her health issues, strongly identifying medical issues as who she was. Very good point. I think I was close to that, although I've always liked to talk about many things. Health issues were predominant for me, taking up a lot of time to resolve them. But a friend told me I was complaing too much. Another friend said I talked too much about them. I was trying to update her. So that's hit home now. I do like to talk a lot, and that was the main area to talk about for me. I've learned though that people just aren't interested by medical info about me or in general. I had studied to be a nurse, and then Social Work and I am still very interested in the whys and how's of all our bodies/minds. I also like to share about what I've learned about my and others bodies/minds. Right now I've focused about learning about medical issues, relationships, and the politics surrounding these. Im sure I've focused too much on these, and this has caused some relationship problems. Even now.
I do like to discuss people issues, and Im working more on focusing on others main interests and mindfulness about this. A long description of this I know.
Im wondering if your grandmother was any like this?
I very much appreciate the feedback and sharing! A work in progress...

@eileenalana123 do not feel guilty about talking, it gets it out and not bottled up. that's important information on how you feel to what you feel. Yes, I've learned a lot from these accidents also.
More about how to deeply relax. Im going to start meditating at least 15 minutes day, because it was so helpful today when dealing with pain.
I have history of anxiety. I've read about how helpful meditation is, but I really learned how when I was in pain today from fall related problem.
Id like to hear more from you about the triggers. I appreciate this!

@eileenalana123--- thank you for saying I've been a help. its a lot of what the last 2 years and a lifetime of getting hurt has taught me. triggers- three that i use regular 1st is breathing in thru the nose and blow it out slowly, like trying to slow your heart rate. 2nd is thinking of a happy place not just a picture but lead up to it in your memory like a replay of a first kiss each second leading up to it. visual replay in motion. 3rd is laying back and watching the clouds roll by or watch for shooting stars. all you need is a comfort position and a good memory or imagination. take your mind off the problem for 15 min. then start whatever you were doing with renewed faith. close out the noise just thinking or breathing to steady yourself.

worry stones are a great source of stress relief, flex ball or just learning to check for your own pulse without using your thumb. all while sitting waiting to be seen. once in the office pretty much do little things to look at in a different light, picture, plant or something other than 4 blank walls.
