skin is extremely sensitive to touch. it. started after Covid

Posted by ginaschra @ginaschra, Mar 11, 2025

My skin is extremely sensitive to touch. I’m miserable. Gabapentin prescribed Doesn’t seem to be working. My hands and arms are the worst. Legs and feet hurt but not as bad. Best way to describe it is when you were a kid and fell and scraped your skin on the concrete . This all started after my 2nd time getting Covid. Not sure if this is from Covid. I’ve seen a dermatologist, neurologist, and a rheumatologist. No answers. I’m so tired of the pain, it’s causing me to lose sleep because of the pain. I’ve put up with this for over a year now. Was grasping at straws to see if anyone else has these symptoms. 😢

Hi,

I am seeing a COVID 19 Long specialist at Stanford. a lot of weird things are happening to my body since having COVID. You need to get into a COVID Long specialist. They are have good results with some drugs that have helped me, and they have so much knowledge and have heard everything. I thought I was going crazy until I started going to my COVID doctor.

@madelynmancini
How do I find a long COVID doctor or try to apply to Stanford?

you may want to have a workup to see if you have long covid...I had tremendous skin issues with long covid until I started on low dose naltrexone and started slathering my skin with colloidal oatmeal lotion.

I forgot to note that, even though I can’t prove it, I believe this came from my Covid shot- 2 days after the last one and 10 days after the one before that.
Covid shots have caused all sorts of health problems.

@itsmeagain I believe you are right about the Covid shots. I had two shots in January 2021 three weeks apart. I was working in the hospital and we were gonna take Covid patients. Fast forward to the first week in March I retired. Two days later I woke up and noticed I had pinpricks going off from head to toes and in my eyes 24/7. The medical term is paresthesia. I firmly believe it was the shots. It took me 3 months to see a neurologist and I asked a question. how many of your patients have woke up and had full onset of pinpricks head to toes and in their eyes. He said none it is rare. After a skin biopsy I was told I had small nerve fiber neuropathy idiopathic no known cause and non length dependent. I do not have anyone in my family who has ever had anything neurological issues. I take alpha lipoic acid and it helped. I get pin pricks occasionally but not like I did at first. Very weird. @rnlorena

I just remembered that my CIDP was determined by a spinal tap . And I remember reading that this was a good test for that.
My first one didn’t reveal much. Maybe the doctor didn’t do it right. I’ll be honest, it was extremely painful. But the second one, which was the determinant, was a breeze! Honestly. I guess it does depend on the doctor. This one was over before I realized it.
The neurologist can prescribe it.
I just don’t know how you find the right one.
Try it and good luck.

I don’t know if this s the right way to respond but anyway recently the skin on my face and arms has become sensitive and is always itching-driving me crazy. I use hydroxizine to stop it. Usually takes about 30 min to work but it’s good.
I’ve not had any positive results in any other areas.
My fingers are getting numb and tingly. Sounds like an oxymoron but it isn’t.
It’s hard to stay positive isn’t it?

My skin pretty much lost its ability to secrete oil since COVID so it is very, very dry and originally was painful (along with dry eyes, dry mouth, etc). I tried about 20 creams including expensive ones from the dermatologist and nothing helped until I tried Colloidal Oat Cream from AproDerm (made in Canada). I have to apply it every day to keep the skin somewhat moist but it has stopped the pain and the rashes/eczema from this post COVID symptom.
