Has Algeacal been researched by Mayo Clinic or by any patient?

@tmknight That's disappointing to hear and I'm so sorry it didn't give you results. I was going to consider taking it for a plant-based form of calcium.

Are you also exercising to increase muscle and stimulate bone growth, to further support your goals?

I am also taking Vitamin K-2 along with Vitamin D, to help direct any calcium to the bones and away from the arteries! I wish you all the best.

@lilac2025 I have had this advice from my doctor too about taking Vitamin K2D3.

@blueberre is it possible that your dosage of synthroid can be adjusted…my doc has kept mine quite low in recent years (even has me split a pill so I get 1/2 dose 2x a week) and thyroid levels are fine…sometimes the dose we start on is too high as we age…? all a big question as I am not a doctor ! There are different forms of calcium, another area to explore- some may be better absorbed, easier on the gut. It gets complicated if someone is taking a lot of meds…good luck to all !!

Seeing an endocrinologist next month. Hopefully better versed than my GP in all things Hashimotos. Also for now depending on calcium rich foods for my calcium and ditching any and all calcium pills. I was surprised to find that many foods besides dairy have calcium. I also found a bone supplement that has no calcium in it. Based on annatto, although I am guessing that may have issues in the long run.

@jenniferhunter Hi Jen. Nice to know another doctor (other than the authors of the two books I got that information from) supports taking these supplements! I had to educate my cardiologist about it! And, my primary doctor. Gees. We really do have to be our own advocates and researchers for our own health at times!

@lilac2025 The doctor who recommended vitamin K2D3 was a functional medicine doctor and environmental medicine specialist. Sometimes these doctors sell the supplements which he did.

I recently talked to someone who was taking it for two years and saw no improvement. I think it's a lot of hype. I recently read about MBP (milk basic protein). It's supposed to improve bone density and it's backed by studies. If anyone has tried it, I would love to hear your experience.

They recommend k2 and D3 with the calcium. I am also trying strontium but haven't taken it long enough to know if it helps.

@madje51 I take Vitamin D plus K, calcium, magnesium, eat whole milk Greek yogurt, and other supplements and food to help with bones. My last bone scan (2024) showed an improvement, changed to osteopenia. I get my next scan in one year, hopefully the readings continue to improve or at least maintain! I’ve had osteopenia for a few years, when it dipped down in 2022. I do take 2 Vitamin D, buy them online, NOW, brand, or there’s others online. I was told by my doctor it should be above the bare minimum for D levels on the bloodwork, a reading of 70 was her goal for me. My pharmacist suggested getting it online, not the so called drugstore brands.

@ga29 Interesting the D level that was suggested for you. I was taking a combine supplement from Vitamin Shopped which contains the calcium from algae, and K2 and D. My serum vitamin D level is in the high 60's now. Endocrinologist said the D level is to high and to stop any supplements with vita D? I seemed to feel better on these supplements but I went back to just calcium citrate do to him. So since an older female with hashimotos also why did he say that the D serum level was too high?

@2buddy If I remember correctly, my doctor said my vitamin D levels should be around 50, If it gets too high, it can be toxic. That would be a question to ask. After your levels get lower, perhaps you can discuss what dosage would be optimal for Vitamin D. FYI, I also had Hashimotos. That was related to old silver dental fillings that were toxic and I improved a lot after those were removed.

@jiferhunter I had quite a few of the old was it amalgamine fillings removed and replaced with crowns , but still have quite a few left in my mouth. So this could be the reason I got Hashimotos? It seems that even though I'm old that the D I get is from the sun. Other than this just a kirkland MVI which does have some D within it.

@2buddy For myself, I know because of the Hasahimotos blood tests before and after that dental amalgams were the cause for me.
