Slow motility after Choledochojejunostomy surgery...what to do next?

Posted by bborth @bborth, Jan 13, 2024

I had this GI surgery back in late '19. Seemed to help for the first year, then started having periods of constipation that would really affect my quality of life as most of you know. Pain always originated upper R area of the abdomen, and radiates into the back. Each CT scan I have had since the surgery shows stool build up which I can't seem to move through. This caused an abcess to form a year ago which landed me in the hospital even. It just seems like now has become chronic where I go through this period, clear out, repeat. More bad days that good though. Have tried linzess to no avail, amitriptyline, etc. Only relief comes from colonic cleanses, but again the cycle repeats even on a strict diet, and lots of exercise. My nervous system has been affected by this major surgery, plus many ERCP's prior to that. Any thoughts? Has anyone heard of or experienced relief with the implant that helps contract the muscles along the GI tract to keep things moving?

@bborth how are you doing nowadays? I'm in line to have the Roux En Y Gastric Bypass surgery after multiple ERCPs. Would like tany advice you could offer. Hope you are doing better.

I just went to a Dr who prescribes the Vibrant capsule. It’s a capsule that you put in a pod to turn it on per se then you swallow it. Take before bedtime. No meds in it just emits a vibration to stimulate peristalsis, the normal contraction like movement in your intestines. I’ve been on Linzess for 4 years along with miralax and mag citrate and all this is failing and I’m so sick of it. I eat pristine and am active and drink plenty fluids. Funny thing is I’m on Medicare now and I just got approved through Abbvie to get my Linzess for free. Last year with regular insurance I spent about 4500 dollars just on Linzess. I’m also on Tirosint sol which is another expensive drug for my thyroid but it works. The Vibrant capsule isn’t covered by any Medicare prescription plan or regular insurance so it’s 89 for the pod( a one time purchase) and 89 per month for a month supplie of capsules. I’m going to give it a try. I’m 65 and it’s taking its tole on me. I’m not rich but I’m going to give it a go. I’ll post some updates in 3 months once I start it. I forgot to add. Downside is you can’t have an MRI with it. I presume it has some metal in it. You have to let it pass. I guess you could take extremely powerful laxative until you poop the pills out if needed.
